Yum repair

I upgraded FC-6 to F-7 on an Athlon64 machine,
and the process hung several (3 I think) times during installation.
Each time I re-started the machine,
the number of packages was greatly reduced: 950 ... 400 ... 50.

The system works fine,
but it is pretty clear all the packages were not properly installed.
Eg when I ran "yum update" after the installation
only 30 or so packages were downloaded,
while on other systems the number was 300-400.

Is there any way of checking that everything has been downloaded?

Or is there even a command like "yum --force install"
to force a re-installation of a particular package?

Try package-cleanup in yum-utils.

Hi! Out of curiosity I tried to run package-cleanup in a freshly upgraded 
F7 machine and noticed that there was no package-cleanup command...

I then tried "yum install yum-utils"

[root@odin ~]# yum install yum-utils
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Setting up Install Process
Parsing package install arguments
Nothing to do

My fedora repository is pointing to a local network mirror (I did a 
FC6-F7 yum upgrade from this mirror) which is based on the install DVD 
contents, so...

I checked the rpm packages in the DVD and notice that there is no 
F7 yum-utils package:

No Matches found

Am I overlooking something? Is "yum clean packages" equivalent? Thanks!

Yes, the DVD is a subset of available F7 packages. It does not include
packages from the merged Extras repository. If you desire to keep a
local mirror  to sync your local mirror with the
/fedora/releases/7Everything and /fedora/updates/7 repositories.

Thanks very much.
Actually, my yum setup on this machine was so screwed up
that "sudo yum install yum-utils" got the response
that there was nothing to do,
even though package-cleanup was not found.

So I found the yum-utils rpm, and ran "rpm -Uvh yum-utils*".
It wasn't really clear what argument to give package-cleanup
but I said "sudo package-cleanup --cleandupes".
This cleared out 100-200 fc6 packages,
and now when I run "sudo yum update"
over 100 packages are updated or installed.

I'll study package-cleanup more carefully,
and see if there are any other arguments I should give.

try running:
which package-cleanup

it will tell you the full path and you may have to do that.  I found that I had also
gotten the nothing to do message yet could not run it w/o putting in the full path.
