Hi,
In Fedora 17 and before, I could successfully replace lxdm with slim just by uninstalling one (lxdm) and installing slim. Doing so in Fedora 18 does not "work". By that, I mean that I do not get the graphical display with slim: instead, I get a text prompt and I have to login with password, following which I have to type startx. Following a load of text I am then put into the LXDE desktop screen.
What exactly do I need to do in F18 to get back the "old experience"?
Happy to provide more information: I am not sure what would be helpful and where to start.
Many thanks and best wishes, Ranjan

systemctl enable slim.service

Quick note, the ".service" part of this command is redundant in systemd in recent versions. So system enable slim will work just fine. You only need to expand it if you want to differentiate between different unit files (ex: cups.service vs cups.socket)

Thanks for that.... Old habits die hard.

Oh, FWIW, tab completion of "systemctl enable sl" reinforced my habit. :-)

Thanks, both! A related question: if I were to create a LiveCD, with slim instead of lxdm, what should I do?
Previously, all I did was create the following:
cat > /etc/sysconfig/desktop <<EOF PREFERRED=/usr/bin/fvwm DISPLAYMANAGER=/usr/sbin/slim-dynwm EOF
I note that slim-dynwm has moved to /usr/bin, but doing that also does not have any effect.
Many thanks, Ranjan
