Hello, I am unfamiliar on how to communicate in th users lists. I hope not to be breaking Code of Conduct by sending this emal.
I have found Fedora a great working tool and need to upgrade from Fedora 33 to Fedora 34. But the download in the Software app is giving the following error: Error running transaction: file/usr/.build-id/c7/-dcd663e38adaac7a2d6d137c46f337ab5543cf conflicts between attempted installs of openjfx8-80.202-26.b07.fc34x86_64 and openjfx-3:11.0.9.2-4.fc34x86_64
Would anyone help in fixing this problem?
Thanks and regards Enrique Feoli

I'm not familiar with openjfx or openjf8 and I've not see this sort of error before.
There are several things you can try.
system-upgrade download --refresh --releasever=34 --allowerasing
or
system-upgrade --exclude=openjfx --exclude= openjfx8 --refresh --releasever=34 then upgrade them after the system upgrade has completed.
or
You can remove/erase those two packages, do the upgrade, and then add them back after the upgrade is complete.

He's using Gnome Software. I don't know how to do that in there. Also, that won't work for this issue. The transaction is fine until it checks the files. Two packages are providing the same file. One solution is to try removing openjfx and hope it doesn't remove too many things. Another one is to add a "-x 'openjfx*'" and see if the transaction can work.

Ah, yes. I missed the "download in the Software ap" statement.
FWIW, I should have done this earlier, I just tried installing those 2 packages on an F34 VM and they won't install together. Maybe they aren't supposed to be both installed?

As far as I’m aware of you usually use openjfx and Java 11. If you are stuck with Java 8 for some reason you have to use openjfx8. I just don’t know if openjfx8 works with Java 11 as well. Never tried.
You can install Java 8 and Java 11 in parallel and the same should apply to openjfx/openjfx8.
So it is likely to be a bug in the rpms. But you should be able to apply one of the suggested workarounds without doing harm.
Thnak you so much Ed for the guidance. I was able to download the Fedora 34 distribution, removed the openjfix and openjfx8 packages, plus the two files that appear in the error message Error: Transaction test error: file /usr/lib/.build-id/c7/dcd663e38adaac7a2d8d137c46f337ab5543cf from install of openjfx-3:11.0.9.2-4.fc34.x86_64 conflicts with file from package openjfx8-8.0.202-26.b07.fc34.x86_64 file /usr/lib/.build-id/e6/010f9c606facd1495fb823e9e767752537712b from install of openjfx-3:11.0.9.2-4.fc34.x86_64 conflicts with file from package openjfx8-8.0.202-26.b07.fc34.x86_64 However, when the command to instal is given the above error appears repatedly, even after rebooting. Is there some kind of chace to clear? Enrique

I believe you are saying that you now have upgraded and are running on F34. You can "cat /etc/redhat-release) from the command line to verify.
Now the issue is you are trying to install both openjfix and openjfx8 and are getting the error you show above.
According to Peter Boy's response on the list it is OK for both packages to be installed. If they fail to install, then there is a packaging problem with one or both of those packages.
In that case, a bugzilla (bug report) should be filed with the goal of getting the maintainer of the packages to fix the issue.
Makes sense?
I am certain that I am still on F33. The download wenr fine, but the transaction test shows the error below and will not allowe installation, even with both packages removed, so it is clear that I am not running F34. Would this be abug and reported to bugzilla? Or is there a way to have the upgrade completed?.

That's "odd". Could you just send the result of typing this from the commad line?
rpm -q openjfix openjfx8
You should get....
[egreshko@meimei ~]$ rpm -q openjfix openjfx8 package openjfix is not installed package openjfx8 is not installed
This the result: [efeoli@localhost ~]$ rpm -q openjfix openjfx8 package openjfix is not installed openjfx8-8.0.202-26.b07.fc34.x86_64 [efeoli@localhost ~]$
It looks as if openjfx8 was not removed. Perhaps I did not serached well?

OK.... You can do
sudo dnf erase openjfx8
from the command line to try and remove it again.
Then try the upgrade.

There is a typo in the command, it's openjfx, not openjfix. An "i" snuck into the example command.
package openjfix is not installed openjfx8-8.0.202-26.b07.fc34.x86_64
The ".fc34" in the above should indicate that you're running Fedora 34. If you're not, then you're running some hybrid of 33 and 34, at the least. :)
sudo dnf erase openjfx8
Or perhaps:
sudo dnf erase 'openjfx*'
to ensure any of the openjfx subpackages are removed?
Though I'm not sure this matters if the upgrade actually completed. Then the issue is simply that the two versions of openjfx cannot be installed in parallel at the moment, due to the file conflict.

Thanks. I either need to update my glasses prescription or increase my font sizes.

Missed that too. :-(

Based on an off-list message, I think the update has now been completed. I asked the OP to verify on-list.
