I've never use rhn applet or up2date, I update redhat systems whith autoupdate. So I don't have /etc/sysconfig/rhn/sources, sorry. But I understand that up2date can use yum, so you can use yum directly.
sur ce, bonne nuit, christophe

the applet will work only with yum sources. My current source file is ------------ ### the defalt rhn (using "default" as the url means ### use the one in the up2date config file ### This is required. #up2date default
### an yum style repo ### format: ### type channel-label url
yum rawhide http://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/rawhide yum libxml2 http://veillard.com/libxml2 yum rhn_applet http://people.redhat.com/~veillard/testing/yum/rhn-applet ------------
Note that up2date is commented out as well as everything else except the yum sources. The first one is rawhide (wich was down earlier today but might be up by now, the other ones are my own channels for libxml2 and rhn_applet testing,

thanks a lot !!!

Unchanged, not needed. Up2date and the rhn_applet do not use the /etc/yum.conf file, only the /etc/sysconfig/rhn/sources is used to select the various sources. You don't need to have yum installed to have yum support now. Yum is 3 things: 1/ a set of rules to set up a repository and the info files + header packages needed for the resolver on the clients 2/ yum-arch the program which implements the setup of those metadata on a server 3/ yum the program which implements the client side for the resolver.
up2date (and to a lesser extend the rhn_applet) reimplements the 3rd part, based on the metadata defined in 1/

In fact my rhn applet say me that there are 15 packages to upgrade, and with the sources i have in my apt source.list file I don't find the new packages, so i would try yum tu directly update my packages with the ftp.redhat.com repository for rawhide(the repository use by the rhn applet). it's seems to be impossible with apt.
regards

The applet does not handle apt sources.

I just want to know if thereis a conf for yum tu update packages directly on http://ftp.redhat.com. Here is the error message i received when i tried to check the update:
"[root@teppei root]# yum check-update Error: Cannot find baseurl or name for server 'updates'. Skipping Error: Cannot find baseurl or name for server 'base'. Skipping Gathering header information file(s) from server(s) Finding updated packages Downloading needed headers "
And here is my conf file :
"[main] cachedir=/var/cache/yum debuglevel=2 logfile=/var/log/yum.log pkgpolicy=newest distroverpkg=fedora-release tolerant=1 exactarch=1
[base] baseurl=http://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/rawhide [updates] baseurl=http://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/rawhide "
