Hi folks,
I've been around UNIX for a long time, mostly Solaris, but also Linux. However, it's all in a server/data center environment, never done the desktop *nix thing. So, after my wife's latest very nasty Windows malware experience, I moved her PC to Fedora Core 2. That went very well, with one major exception.
I need to move her mail folders from Mozilla on Windows to Mozilla on FC2. Anyone done this or have any advice?
Eric

Simple copy doesn't work? (with perhaps dos2unix)
My recommendation for such transactions is to always use an IMAP server as in intermediate step.
- copy local mail/folders on to the imap server [on the old machine/email-client] - copy mail/folders from the imap server to the local machine [on the new machine/email-client]

If the MScat is still operational, can't you always 'forward the mail'?
Hey there,

Well, I could, but we are talking about years of mail in a series of nested folders. It would take a long time. I think I will just take her folders to work with me, load them into a mail client on Windows, upload to an IMAP server, then pull back down to a mail client on *nix of some kind. Then burn the folders back to CD and take em home. That ought to work just fine. I think there is a difference in the file spec or encoding between Mozilla on Windows and Mozilla on Linux/Unix. Going to post a question to the Mozilla.org folks as well.
Thanks, Eric

Well although am using Fedora Core 1 and not 2 , i have been using the various versions of Mozilla since 1.4 . The folder format that the Windows version of Mozilla uses is the very same one as the Linux version of Mozilla . So a simple copy will do the work . But , please be carefull where you put things , so you will not accidentally delete the current email . Try this . Go to the Fedora Core 2 box and launch Mozilla . Create a fake account , for example WindowsMail . Then simmply overwrite those files and you are done .
Kind Regards, Kostas
