I have tried to install/compile the Tk module of perl (CPAN). Tried with cpan and also manually. The older stable tk (v 800.024) fails to compile... no wonder... (it sais no such switch --center). The newer unstable tk (v 804.024 beta13) compiles but fails on tests (make test). 42 out of 45 tests fails.
Eventually found an rpm package produced by ATrpms of the perl-Tk-800.024-6.rhfc1.at.i386.rpm compiled for the Fedora Core 1, but installing of Tk::JPEG and Tk::PNG also are failing.
So... what's the deal with Fedora Core 1...
My target is installing and runninc VOCP 0.9.3 (vocp systems).
The guys on Mandrake 9.2 managed to make an rpm out of vocp 0.9.3 and also provide all the components.
Either I wipe all perl from my linux and try compiling (or just installing) the perl from src.rpms (or just rpms) from Mandrake 9.2 or I found a solution or I find another VOCP like system.
For others... VOCP: Much more than an /answering machine/, VOCP transforms your computer into a full-featured *call answering* and *voice messaging* system. With the VOCP System http://www.vocpsystem.com/vocp.php?mode=component, you can create an unlimited number of voicemail http://www.vocpsystem.com/voicemail_phone.php?mode=component, pager http://www.vocpsystem.com/boxconf_types.php?mode=component#pager and command shell http://www.vocpsystem.com/command_shells.php?mode=component boxes which callers will navigate using their touch tone telephone. You can send http://www.vocpsystem.com/fax_send.php?mode=component and receive http://www.vocpsystem.com/fax_reception.php?mode=component faxes, listen to your email http://www.vocpsystem.com/tts_email2vm.php?mode=component using text-to-speech http://www.vocpsystem.com/tts_setup.php?mode=component, filter and redirect calls http://www.vocpsystem.com/callerid_filter.php?mode=component based on caller ID http://www.vocpsystem.com/callerid_setup.php?mode=component information, run programs http://www.vocpsystem.com/command_shells.php?mode=component through the telephone and more.
Thanks for your help.
Hi,
I'm sure you all are used to newbies and questions regarding posting to this list, as well as when the new kernel will be available in an upgraded Fedora release.
So please inform me how you prefer replies; shall I quote the post on top of my reply or below my text?
And what about Fedora with the new kernel?
Thanks, Kenth Michael Stockholm, Sweden

Below the text, always. And please, when posting a new message, don't just get another, press reply and empty the subject and message body. This bothers most of people, also as list archives.
They call this thread hijaacking, it's preety annoying. If you use evolution, take a look at your messages and then press CTRL-T. This will organize messages in threads, so messages that belong to same subject are grouped together. As you will see, messages are not threaded for its subjects, but by a special header, so even messages with different subjetcs, but belonging to the same matter, are grouped right.
And as you will see also, messages with hijaacked threads (like this one) will appear inside the original thread (which, in this case, is Re: perl tk (and jpeg) failing to compile on fedora core 1)
And what about Fedora with the new kernel?
I'm using kernel 2.6.1 with fedora core 1, and it runs ok, except for usb. It had some issues with sound, but it's gone now, as I'm using ALSA on both 2.4 and 2.6. When the machine is running 2.6, looks like I bought a newer computer ;-)

Have you tried "LANG=C" before you compile? Ie:
LANG=C perl -MCPAN (etc.)
Some perl modules aren't UTF-8 compliant.

I know about that issue. I've tried to compile when using LANG=C (my default) and also LANG=en_US I change this in /etc/sysconfig/i18n...
