Dear All,
When running on the console the command 'pm-suspend', I get the following:
$ pm-suspend Error: kernel cannot suspend to ram. $
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

The kernel thinks this machine can not suspend to ram.
Let me indicate in addition the specification of my kernel:
$ uname -r 2.6.22.9-91.fc7 $
You can also tell us what your PC/Laptop is, hardware profile (if using smolt) or 'lspci' & 'cat /proc/cpuinfo'.

Is this a desktop (Pentium M was for mobile AFAIK), isn't it?
Has this machine ever been able to suspend to RAM? If so, have you changed something in your BIOS?
Please check what these two say: grep -i 'power states' /var/log/messages grep -i 'suspend' /var/log/messages
I've seen something like / long ago :-) /: 'Software Suspend has malfunctioning SMP support. Disabled :(' but have no idea what the current status is...

Yes, my computer is a desktop one.
Has this machine ever been able to suspend to RAM?
Never.

Please check what these two say: grep -i 'power states' /var/log/messages grep -i 'suspend' /var/log/messages
Both commands return nothing.
Thanks, Doncho.

And is it a configuration problem or hardware inability?

The last thing you can try is try to reconfigure your BIOS. There are some settings (I have no desktop currently) that enable/disable S1/S2/S3 states and change ACPI/???'s version. Disable legacy USB support (be sure to have PS2 keyboard just in case) and... try... A friend of mine got his PC suspending to RAM after changing something in the BIOS, but I never asked what exactly. Luck.

Thanks, Doncho. After having changed from S1 to S3 in the BIOS, my computer can suspend to RAM. However, I cannot resume it: I use the power button and I see activity in the computer, but the screen remains black forever. Any ideas?

*Some* NVidia cards can cause problems at suspend time. My Thinkpad T61 Quadro NV140M refuses to suspend. It goes into suspend mode, then pops right back out again, all by itself.
Any other T61 users can confirm or disconfirm?
