Dear All
RKWard seems to be a nice gui for R. Its site has the address
http://rkward.sourceforge.net/
I have compiled it from the tarball and created a rpm, but getting the following conflict when trying to install it:
«Transaction Check Error: file /usr/share/apps/katepart/syntax/r.xml from install of rkward-0.4.6-1 conflicts with file from package kdelibs-3.5.6-3.fc6»
Any ideas? Is there somewhere a ready rpm without the above problem?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

The conflict seems to be just a single xml helper for syntax highlighting in Kate. You should be able to force the installation relatively safely.
I have added rkward to the wish list at http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Extras/WishList

In my case, I also use kate for writing R programs. Can I expect that kate will with no problem write R programs if I force the installation of rkward?
Thanks, Rahul, for having added rkward to the Extras/WishList.

Cant guarantee that but it is reasonable to expect it to work. Syntax highlighting is the functionality in question. If it breaks, you can install the kdelibs package back to revert the change. It would be better to avoid the conflict in packaging if you can do that.

Welcome.

Not harmful, but my rkward rpm, after installation, does not work properly. I shall wait for someone with better expertise to create a fine rpm.

You'd really have to look into the content of the conflicting files. Perhaps they both have the same content. If so, you simply shouldn't include it in your package. Or perhaps the rkward one is updated, in which case you could request that the other one be updated.

Thanks, Jason. I have forced an installation of my rpm, but no success; when I start rkward, it gets into a deadlock... I hope that someone takes on the project of creating a fine rpm for rkward.
