Hi all,
I've been trying to update an f18-xfce using yum.
For whatever reason while loading repos I get to fedora.updates and the download rate drops down to 3-4 kBs. f18 will be EOL by the time this finishes ;)
Ok, disable it. Try to install something (alsa-utils). Wants 5.8M but this time at 3.0kBs.
Is there anyway to find out which one of the repo servers is foobar, and if so, a way to blacklist it?
TIA, Mike Wright

have you installed this stupid "fastest-mirrors" plugin? remove and and try "rm -f /var/cache/yum*" to get a different mirror

Actually fastest-mirrors is what you want. It is never actually right about which mirrors are fastest, but it also allows you to blacklist certain mirrors (which is the useful bit).
Discovering the files to edit and the syntax to use is a separate problem though :-).

it is useless bullshit
in austria it ALWAYS selects the tuwien servers which are creeping since many months between a few MB/sek down to some bytes per second on a 100 MBit fiber
this plugin is broken by design because the ping does not say anything about bandwidth which is the meassure for fast or not

"few MB/sek" was a typo - few KB per second and few means below 100 while the line easily can get 10 MEGABYTES per second a lot of mirrors at least give you 5-8 MEGABTYE per second
