hi,
In FC1, there is a menu(red hat in the left-bottom of the screen) like "Start Menu" in windows. And in windows we can put a shortcut of a program in "Start Menu"->"Program". Where are these files linked to icons and How can I put a shortcut in the "Start Menu"??

This has been a long standing issue with Gnome and Fedora Core. Basically there is no easy way to do it. What you have to do is learn about .desktop files at:
http://www.freedesktop.org/Standards/desktop-entry-spec
and then put those you've created into /usr/share/applications
Search the archives. I'm sure someone has a better guide than mine. If you're wondering why this hasn't been made easier, that's in the archives also (I think it's because upstream Gnome hasn't seen this as that much of a priority at the moment).

I am not sure whether you are running KDE or Gnome, but with KDE u use the menu editor located in the control center or by clicking on the task bar at the bottom of the screen and selecting configure panel. Then go to the Menus option and select edit K menu. For KDE, I am using 3.3.1-02, and GDM as the display manager if that helps. I do not use Gnome, but it probably has something comprable. As far as the links to icons, they can be found under /usr/share/icons where you can find most other KDE and Gnome files. Hope this helps.

Either I don't understand the other answers so far, or they don't understand what you're trying to ask. If you're using Gnome, it's easy to find which.
Click on the red hat, then move your cursor till something you want is highlighted. Suppose that's Sound, under Preferences, with an icon of a speaker. Right-click once, and move the cursor till Add This Launcher to Panel is highlighted. Now left-click on that. The system will put a little speaker in the bar (called Panel) on the bottom of your screen (or the top, or one side -- you can have the panel where you like). When you click on the icon -- called a launcher -- that application will open.
Is that what you want?
