Hi all! I'm currently losing my hair!
I was using FC4 32Bit and Nvidia Driver 76.76 very nicely. Using the last kernel 2.6.12 (398)
Today, I have decided to install on my computer a Intel Pentium 4 with 64bits instructions (EMT64) In this way, I have reinstall FC4 64Bi.
I have done the same update as my old 32Bit version (kernel 398, gcc, aso...)
I have install on the same way the Nvidia Driver 76.76, modify my xorg.conf as well.
Now, X does not start and computer completly hang when starting Gnome. I have try livna driver => same problem I have try selinux=0 on startup => same problem
So I wonder if someone have the same problem and if there is any solutions/trick?
My configuration is:
P4 3Ghz EMT64 Motherboard ASUS P5P800 Bios 1011 VGA ASUS GForce 6800 FC4 64bit with last yum -y update completly finished
I think if there is no solution that i will come back to 32bit
Thanks for your help.
Regards

If you do not use 3D, try the Free nv driver instead in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
If that fails too try the vesa driver.

Thanks for the advice but I really need 3D since I play World of Warcraft using Cedega (was working very great on my old FC4 32bit) I can confirm that generic driver work on my 64bit system (driver nv).

Did you download the right drivers from the nvidia 64 bit system either AMD64 or ia64?
Yes, I have downloaded EM64T driver. http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_amd64_1.0-7676.html
I use Intel Pentium 4 with 64Bit support http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number/index_view_p4.htm

I think you downloaded the wrong driver. You're using an driver for AMD 64bit, you'll need the INTEL 64bit driver, which can be found on http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia64_1.0-5336.
Good luck

These driver are for Highend Intel CPU (Xeon aso...) If you read on the nvidia website, driver for Intel EM64T are the same as ADM 64

ia64 is is itanium. adm64 should probably be more properly called x86_64 at this point.

We have a EM64T machine.
I never got it to use any nvidia driver with any kernel > 2.6.10, neither in FC3 nor in FC4.
The machine just hangs as soon as X starts.
So currently, this machine runs FC3 x86_64 with a 2.6.10-1.770_FC3smp kernel.
So you could try FC3 with this kernel and see if it works.

So nobody had any solutions??? Regards

For feedback, I have tested these driver on another system and it work:
AMD Athlon 64 3000 Motherboard with Nforce 4 chipset Fedora Core 4 64 Nvidia driver 76.76
So I wonder now if it is the CPU EM64T that is the problem or the Motherboard with Intel Chipset.
I have send a mail to nvidia support but still not receive any reply. If I found any solution I will post it here.

(ALL FIXED)
Hi all, finally found the solution.
On my Motherboard ASUS P5P800 Bios 1011 I have made these settings: * Go To Bios * Advanced/CPU Configuration * Execute Disable Function [Enabled] Function description: "No-Execution Page Protection Technology - Disable to force the XD feature flag to always return 0"
Conclusion: I use ASUS motheboard P5P800 with Intel P4/3Ghz (EMT64) with Fedora Core 4 64Bits SMP (2.6.12.398) with patched NVidia driver 76.76 and with the XD Bios feature disabled all works fine!!!
