(http://localhost:631/help/sharing.html?TOPIC=Getting+Started&QUERY=#AUTO...) and there I found a note that says:
"Note:
Due to user interface changes in Mac OS X 10.5, CUPS shared printers will not automatically appear in the print dialog. Instead, you must first run the following command to enable CUPS browsing on your system:
cupsctl BrowseRemoteProtocols=cups
Then choose each of the CUPS shared printers you want to see in the print dialog by adding them, either from the Add Printer... item in the print dialog or from the Print & Fax preference pane in the System Preferences window."
I don't know if that's true for your version of IOS, but perhaps it will help.
Ted, thanks for the link It reads as if it might be what I need. But, much is not clear to me, I thought the whole point of IPP Sharing was that you didnt have to do anything on the client machines, even Macs.
Am I supposed to run cupsctl BrowseRemoteProtocols=cups
on my f14 box Server? or on the imac client?
I tried "cupsctl BrowseRemoteProtocols=cups" on my f14 no change, still cant see the printer from my imac
I also don't understand " then choose each of the CUPS shared printers you want to see in the print dialog by adding them, either from the Add Printer... item in the print dialog or from the Print & Fax preference pane in the System Preferences window"
is this meant to be done on my f14 server? or the imac client?
On my f14 I don't see a " Print & Fax preference pane in the System Preferences window"
If it means choosing from the imac print dialog, it seems impossible because my entire problem is my imac cant see the printer to choose it.
I haven't felt this dumb re linux in a long time.

Well, especially Macs, as CUPS is/was written by Apple.

And did you try it on the Mac? I tried 'man cupsctl' on my F14 box, and it doesn't seem to support that syntax, so I think it was intended for you to try on the Mac.

Then, I'd bet that's also intended to be done on the mac.

Try step #1 first, then perhaps step #2 will work.

Yeah, computers are good at handing out humility to us all, on occasion.

If this doesn't work, try going to http://127.0.0.1:631/ on the Mac, as that's the web interface for cups.
