Nautilus Window Behavior Question

When I double click a folder icon on the desktop it opens a window. 
When I double click a folder within that window I get another window, ad
infinatum.

Is there a way to configure the behavior so that it does not open a new
window, but just displays the contents of the sub folder in the existing
window?
