I have F19 on a T30 Thinkpad, installed by fedup from F18 (which ran fine), and running xfce4 with some software from Gnome and KDE (such as gnome-terminal) also installed.
The display has elephantiasis, as if it were on a screen big enough to cover the room wall. It is a deep reddish brown (on black), and hard to see despite the absurd magnification.
It's also way slow, at least when I use its own keyboard and mouse. I have my desktop PC connected to it over ssh -Y; it seems to respond at a normal rate here. (But, despite the -Y, I can't get to any display other than a terminal, on the PC any more than on the laptop. Or, maybe, I just don't know how.)
. Maybe the following, from the PC, will tell someone something :

I would like at least to establish whether the trouble is in F19, in me, or in my hardware.

Hi: AFAIR that laptop has some Radeon 7500 or something like that. So that's not helping. What about open a TTY (alt+ctrl+f2) is the shell better there? Have you tested the memory with memtest+ ? I'm afraid that the lack of 3D rendering capabilities is killing you, my son uses my old T43 and we're using Gnome but with the "Fallback" mode, cause even with the i915 intel card it's dead slow.
Kind regards

I'm sorry: I don't speak hardware. :-{

Well, the font is back to normal, if not smaller; but it's so dim I can barely see it's there. (The brightness is at max.)

No -- but I think I have a CD with it here somewhere, or can make one. Stay tuned.

Well, the chief purpose of this laptop is to run proprietary software connected with a GPS -- preferably on a virtual XP. (Wine will usually install and launch, but not connect to a GPS.) Looks like I'd better upgrade <sigh>.
Meanwhile, unless memtest offers surprises, I may try installing CentOS 6.4, and look for some other use, or give the machine away. I'd rather get the data off it first, though ....
