hallo currently I'm doing backup's with rsync. Today "restic" got my attention and I'm thinking to move to it, cause of it's ability to verify the backup (somehow).
https://github.com/restic/restic/
Is someone here who is using it and can share some experiences ?

It's in the Fedora repo. 'dnf install restic'.

I'm only using borgbackup which is very similar to restic and all I can say that it works great. restic has some additional features over borgbackup (e.g. Windows support, somewhat faster, cloud-storage backends) while borgbackup can also compress backup data (before encryption).
Also I think restic is a bit newer than borgbackup and they improved their software recently (I think restic used to need much more RAM than borg though I think that has been fixed).
Both packages are available in Fedora so you can just try it yourself. All I can say that the "always incremental" approach works really, really well for me (including restore!).
Felix
Thanks.
played yesterday with restic: it seems quick. tests on i7-6700, 16GB, SSD (target backup medium will be an HDD)
read about borgbackup, indeed they seem very similar. (some) differences: other programming language and - IIRC- bb. can do backup's without encryption.
all I need is verification (before (!) needed restore)
maybe I will play with bb. too...

Knew what? If you don't quote what you're talking about, don't expect people to understand you. Most of us don't use HyperKitty and not many will be bothered checking the archives for the previous message.
<rant>
WHY does HK not quote the context by default? This is a real PITA.

I knew that restic is in the fedora repo. sorry for the mess !
supporting your ran ! ================ I was just replying directly to you using the "Reply link" under your comment, so I thought I'm doing it right.
Your rant regarding this point is wrongly addressed to me !
Cause I often got the impression that HK does some *magic* sorting. My comments often appear incoherent somewhere in the thread without any timely flow. even if I do a full quote and clear the hole quoted text it seems HK looses track.
you/we can see it right now in this comment: in HK it appears that I'm replying to my self: see the first line !
Often I need to click "Show replies in by date" at the top of the thread to sort it *halfway*.
That all bugs me too !!! and -btw- a edit function would be a win too !
P.S. I'm thinking about using a mail client. I guess the advantage will be a starting line in my comments of: "who wrote what when" !

The rant isn't addressed to you. Sorry of that wasn't clear. As a rule, something marked as <rant></rant> is a general comment inserted as an aside because it happens to be relevant to this particular post.

I don't look at HK unless I need to consult the archives, and never use it to post if I can avoid it. This mailing list is (as the name implies) a *mailing list*. That's how most people interact with it. HK is (IMHO) a misguided attempt to merge two modes of communication with different traditions and expectations. I was much less annoyed by the old archive format, which was easier to search and had the advantage of *not* letting you post directly. However that's getting OT.

I would encourage you do that. Any half-decent MUA will do. I use Evolution, others people use Thunderbird, Claws, Mutt etc. It doesn't greatly matter.

did that years ago and getting a head full of steam. - Okay, it was the time where daily ~300 and more messages run though this list. -
so, 4 hours ago I just clicked the "Reply"-Button below the comment I want to answer to WITHOUT being logged in to HK ? it started my thunderbird and the message was send too.
but, alas the message got lost somehow or until now it didn't appear. I guess it has something to do with my mail forwarding. I'm acting inside Fedora with my second email address and my main address, where TB sends with, is currently unknown to HK/Fedora. I guess I need to change this and expect an undelivery report from the above reply.

Of course. Surely they all do these days? (I don't count the web clients like Gmail, which are essentially broken as regards mailing lists).

Is it? I use it (the basic, non-JS version), and it's working just fine.
Anyway, if the OP used a thread-aware client, he wouldn't have been overwhelmed by 300 messages a day.

Broken in the sense that it really doesn't handle mailing lists well. It's fine for ordinary mail, but has no concept of proper list-aware threading or of "reply to list" (as distinct from "reply to all"). It also doesn't support the "select text and quote it in the reply" feature that's very useful, and not just on lists (it used to allow this via a Google Labs extension, but that disappeared some time ago). And it's hard to reply below the quote rather than top-posting (another thing that used to exist but has now gone).

like TB ?
I wonder why would a thread-aware client reduce the numbers of messages. If I'm subscribed to a list I get them all, don't I ? do I have a lack of knowledge here ?
Anyway: it was years ago (~F8 or so)

Yes, you get them all, but you don't see them all, only the various threads (or their subject lines). The individual messages are hidden behind the thread. If you don't care about the topic, you delete the whole thread in one go. If you do, you open the thread and see all its messages there, in one place, not mixed up with your other mails. Etc. etc.

Some MUAs let you mute selected threads so you don't even download the messages. Also, using IMAP means you don't download anything you aren't explicitly opening.
