Has anyone installed the latest and greatest JRE? I just did and found that the RPM package installed, I did an upgrade instead of an install, but I don't see any files for it and it didn't seem to upgrade anything. Should I blow the existing version away (1.4.2) and install 1.5 fresh?

this is what I do - remove old one and install new one. though to be on safe side i have a ;ink /usr/java pinting to the bin directory of whatever version i install. That way I provide this path to any software that relies upon java ( they always see /usr/java/bin ). Forexample I have used this technique with Oracle 9i tools.

What does rpm -q java show you?
If you installed the old Java via tarball, you may be able to uninstall it by cd'ing to the install directory and typing make uninstall, though you'd better read any readme file there before blindly issuing commands :)
Also use rpm -ql java to find out where the new package put its files. (you'll also likely find where some documentation got put that may help as well)
Where did you get this from (I need a java for my fc3t2)

I try to use RPMS as much as possible. It's just easier to manage. I did uninstall the old and install the new via RPM, but now after adding the symlink to the new plug-in, Mozilla doesn't load. Hmm...

My God man, don't you read Slashdot? :) It's available from Sun, I'd add the download link, but as noted above my Mozilla isn't loading. Go to slashdot and link from there.

Okay more info, I have pulled every trick in the book to get the new plugin to work, but Mozilla refuses to load with it, when I remove the symlink, mozilla loads fine. What should I look for in the logs to report this bug?
