Hello Folks,
It seems that there is something missing in FC4/Gnome2.10. My favorite: gtk emacs-style keybindings.
The part of the Keyboard Shortcuts that enabled this is missing, and the gtk-key-theme-name="Emacs" in ~/.gtkrc-2.0 doesn't seem to work.
Has this feature been removed from FC4/Gnome2.10?! And if not, how do I enable this?
Thank You, Mike
P.S. The gnome documentation in Yelp still makes reference to this feature!! :|

This has actually been changed for a while...

I believe that is now obsolete.

In "~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/interface/%gconf.xml", set gtk_key_theme to "Emacs". You may prefer to edit with gconf-editor.

Is this gnome-specific or would such a thing be also needed for applications such as syplpheed-claws?
Many thanks!

I think it changed back in FC3, when I noticed it and asked the same question. :)

Indeed, this works perfectly for me.
There used to be a way to set this in the preferences, but it was taken away. I guess those of us who like consistent key bindings are just trouble-makers. ;)

Right. I believe it was removed upstream intentionally on the basis that it only confuses beginners, and power users would be able to find the (undocumented?) gconf setting...

By the way, I don't have an interface directory. However, I have a %gconf.xml file in ~/.gconf/desktop/gnome however and it is empty. Should I edit this? What exactly do I put in there?
Is this gnome-specific [...]?
My understanding is that it is gtk specific.
So, regardless of everything else, changing it here should work for all gtk-2 programs?
Many thanks and best wishes!

I guess my real question is what do I do if I do not have gnone running (I use fvwm). Is it still possible using the above to have Emacs-keybindings for GTK-2 applications (such as sylpheed, as well, as is my understanding, firefox)? If not, any suggestions as to which file needs to be modified, updated?
Many thanks!

$ cat .gconf/desktop/gnome/interface/%gconf.xml <?xml version="1.0"?> <gconf> <entry name="gtk_key_theme" mtime="1118849227" type="string"> <stringvalue>Emacs</stringvalue> </entry> </gconf>
I'm guessing that creating the directory and editing that file might do it, although you might have to kill and restart /usr/libexec/gconfd-2.
