I got it from the guys who make our control panel software.
Ok I think I will go back in time and use RH9 again.

Hi,
Excuse me but my knowledge is limited, how do you know that is a RH9 package?
Where did you get it from?
for one - this error happens with few other packages as well (when installing RHL9 compiled binaries on FC1) - so, its kind of a known issue.
And then, I think - the '9' in the revision indicates its built for RHL9.

Hey,
im trying to install this package but it keeps bringing up this error,
anyone know what I should do?
[root@ancaster itobin]# rpm -i courier-imap-3.0.7-1.9.i386.rpm error: Failed dependencies: libcom_err.so.3 is needed by courier-imap-3.0.7-1.9
Installing an RHL9 compiled binary on FC1/2? - it won't work. Look for
one compiled for your OS.

This is absolutely unnecessary.
Had you bothered to read the INSTALL file in the tarball, you would've discovered that it takes exactly one command to build binary RPMs directly from the source tarball.
