I can suggest another workaround: switch to a textual console then
back to the graphic one. (Ctrl-Alt-F2 Ctrl-Alt-F1).
Have you looked at the system logs and/or the Xorg ones (if you are
using Xorg)?

After pressing CTRL-ALT-F3, what happens if you turn the monitor off and
on? Check if the CAPS lock key toggles the light when pressed.
Do you have another monitor around that you can test with?

I sometimes have to turn the monitor off twice, sometimes 3 times
toget the picture to come back on. If I was to do that, I'd see the
drop down prompt on my screen ( aka the ctrl alt f3)

need to find a better component though, maybe the kernel, because it's
clearly not an xfce problem and I don't know how closely xfce bugs are
watched by maintainers.

I think (and hope) that this depends on how many maintainers know how to

I only vaguely remember your original question, so this might not be
completely on target. But, a couple of things.
1. Fedora is open source, which means that people do the work if they
are knowledgeable, have time available, and are willing.
2. Since it appears to be only you having this issue, it is probably
something to do with your hardware and configuration, and not a general
issue. So, even if someone wants to help, they have no way of
reproducing the problem. It is very difficult to solve an issue like
this without that.

graphics device? What happens if you try with a new user, that is, a
user without any of your existing configuration? Have you tried a live

OK, this is a drastic step, but how difficult would it be to return to
F31? It is supported for another 6 months, and it will be getting
security fixes during that time. You can leave your ticket open, in
case someone has a flash of insight, and it is possible that a newer
kernel might fix the issue before you have to update again, depending
on what is actually happening to cause it. Returning to F31, also will
allow you to put in the ticket that everything works in F31, or not,
depending on the outcome. You might want to try a live F31 image to
ensure it still works before taking such a drastic step.
For just this reason, I keep two active Fedoras, n and n-1. I then
update n-1 to n+1 when the new release comes out, which ensures I
always have a functioning Fedora to fall back to if things don't work
out. It is so much easier to resolve issues in a new release when able
to run a functioning release. A *lot* less stressful.

But I could only find Fedora 32 images there. I also found it
disjointed, and difficult to navigate. Rather than the fancy graphics
I would prefer a simple grid with the name, size, etc. and with a
separate grid for each active release. Not as flashy, but much easier
to navigate. Save the flash for after a user selects a specific
version. Of course, I'm not the target of that page, since I know what
I want, and what the images are already. It could be perfectly fitting
for a new and naive user.

If this is a software problem and it started in F31, then reinstalling
F31 would only work until you applied the updates, or won't work at all

How did you downgrade? Did you use a net install or a live image? The
net install will default to including all updates, which means you will
be at the point just before the upgrade to F32. And you said that you

Well, earlier you said you didn't have the problem in F31. But, you have the problem
not that you've upgraded to F32. So, you've now gone back to F31 and the problem
persists. I think you've also tried a "fresh" user and still have the
problem.
This, in my mind, leaves hardware.
Have you tried re-seating the video cable? Or, if possible, swapping out for a different
cable?

I actually mean the "cable" (I think you read "card") that runs from
the computer chassis to the monitor.
I had weird issues one time caused by a poorly seated cable I blame on a cat playing with
it.

The blue ended cable that connects from the screen to the back of the
computer. If you take the end off that goes to the computer it has
little pins down inside of it. The end piece is blue and connects to
the blue port on the back of the pc.

Unless you have a spare cable? Or, you can check to see if one of the pins (both male

female) on all 4 connectors to make sure they are solidly in the block and not pushed in.

I am starting to think my monitor is going bad..... Because the only
time I have a problem is waking up the monitor from being powered down.
Its like the backlight or something doesnt want to come on or
something.
Other than that, when its running the monitor is fine. Theres no burned
in pixels or anything that I can see. And I dont smell any "Magic Blue
Smoke" just yet. Lol...
So could it be the monitor after reading everything I just wrote?

Didn't you mention some kind of wonky graphics happened with one of
your tests? A login popup had strange colors or something?

At the least this indicates that the graphics device is working just
fine. It sounds like the electronic circuits that drive power are
going bad so that neither the manual switch or the signal from the
computer turn it on most of the time.

That would be my conclusion. Maybe you can pick up a cheap used
monitor. Lots of people are upgrading to 2K and 4K monitors, and they
are selling or giving their old monitors to charity. Are there any
charity stores in your area? You could also try craigslist or ebay.

Good News! I found a 22" at Walmart today for 88.00 and tax. So I had
to buy it and I did! Its nice coming from 17.. I open Evo and theres
this huge white gap on the side of space. I need to figure out how to
make everything bigger because this text that you are seeing is pretty
small for me to read.

Yes, all that real estate is wonderful to have. It's been so long
since I did this that I don't remember what I did. I think there was
an overall setting for the desktop, and then I adjusted individually
the things that I still wasn't happy with, like firefox and terminals
and this email client. I set the virtual consoles with their
configuration file. Some tweaking, but then it was done, and I haven't
had to change it again.

There are a few annoyances with that: The number of things that have a
clock in them. Battery-powered phones that sit in a charger cradle
(some cradled devices will leak and discharge the device sitting in
them). And the sheer inconvenience, and mess, of having to trail
cables around furniture so you can reach the switches.
In my workshop I had all the equipment segretated into two outlets, one
which was always left on (clocks, file server), and another which could
be switched off (virtually everything else). That's a bit harder to do
around the modern household.
But sometimes even the older gear throws a spanner in the works. I had
a musical instrument that was emitting a faint burning smell when
switched off by it's own mechanical DPDT power switch. In a room full
of electrical gear, that took a while to track down.'
It turns out that the mains EMI filter is never out-of-circuit. The
common-mode inductive filter is directly wired to the plug, if that has
an insulation breakdown, it can go faulty while "switched off."
There's a couple of ceramic caps across each pole of the power switch,
if they leak, current goes through the circuitry, even while "switched
off." And there's a cap across the mains behind the switch, which
could be stressed if any of the caps across the switch are leaking.
I replaced all the caps, and that seems to have cleared the fault. And
I have to wait for the smell to dissipate to be sure. It lingers, but
doesn't seem to be getting worse. If it does, the inductor is next on
the list.

OK, then you only turn off the strips powering stuff that you want

Though that's missing the point. When you actually go up to your TV,
stereo, whatever, and press the clunky power switch, the damn thing
ought to actually be disconnected from the power.
Quite apart from the power wastage, having electronic devices always
powered on is a bit of a fire risk, especially switch mode power
supplies.

You got me on that part... I dont know how to do anything with the
inside of the computer... You could point the intergrated graphics
card out and I wouldnt know it lol...
The graphics card is intergrated its not a secondary or manually
added card.
Sometimes it does help to reseat the cards in a computer. It doesn't
matter what they are, they can walk out of true due to thermal
expansion, or people moving a PC around that doesn't have a sturdy
casing.
Power off, pull the plug out of the wall. Carefully release and
reinsert any card on the motherboard (memory cards, daughter boards,
anything that's a plug and socket).

RAM. Power leads. Jumpers, at a stretch...
RAM can be a surprising gotcha. I unknowningly had a system with bad
RAM, that was apparently running fine. After an upgrade, the PC become
wonky. We did a memory test and found it consisitently had a fault in
a certain area. My guess would be that the prior install just happened
to load something unimportant, or unused, in that area. And the next
install made different use of RAM. After all, who would notice that
maybe one bit was missing when playing audio, or one pixel in the
bottom right of the screen was stuck, but one bit wrong in other
computations could crash the system.
I've seen systems where someone hadn't plugged the extra 4-pin power
lead (which often goes to a graphics card, but can be to the
motherboard). The computer did usually work fine, running off the
power through the main connector. But under some stress, it failed.
I had my first IBM clown PC built for me, and sent it back for being
unreliable (could crash it changing some basic user preferences). They
took it back, re-installed Windows 98 (it's that long ago), etc., and
gave it back to me. Playing safe, I looked inside before powering on,
only to see that they'd left the CPU fan completely unplugged. Since
then, I've always built my own PCs.
My biggest laugh when looking inside a notoriously wonky PC at the
local school (same era), was finding that someone had sticky-taped an
aspirin inside the chassis. We wondered if they thought it would help,
or they expected that they'd need it the next time they had to work on
it.

At first when it shows the password screen theres like a blackish grey
box in the middle of the screen blocking where you input your password
and then the screen blanks off and then when I turn the screen off and
back on I see the password screen but it blanks right back off. Finally
the 3rd time was the charm.

Then I would expect it's a hardware problem of some sort. I couldn't
say if it's the graphics device or the monitor though. For now, I would
suggest disabling the monitor power saving option and see if that avoids
the problem.

I just created a new user with a total different name and password and
after the screen blanks and I let it set for 30 min. It happened again
the screen either just stays completly blank when you move the mouse or
you sometimes will see the password for a split sec and then it goes
back to black again and I have to turn my screen off and on to get the
screen to come back on.
