Every time I restart my machine, the Win key (Super_R/L or mod4) stops functioning, means - no key combinations involving this key work.
the out put of xmodmap looks fine to me. $ xmodmap xmodmap: up to 3 keys per modifier, (keycodes in parentheses):
shift Shift_L (0x32), Shift_R (0x3e) lock Caps_Lock (0x42) control Control_L (0x25), Control_R (0x6d) mod1 Alt_L (0x40), Alt_L (0x7d), Meta_L (0x9c) mod2 Num_Lock (0x4d) mod3 mod4 Super_L (0x7f), Hyper_L (0x80) mod5 Mode_switch (0x5d), ISO_Level3_Shift (0x7c)
$
However, I found the way to bring it back. I run gnome-keyboard-properties and change my the "Keyboard model" value from "Generic 105-key (Intl) PC", which I have by default, to "Generic 102-key (Intl) PC" for instance, and close that window to apply the changes. Amazingly, the Win key starts working. Now I can change this value back original one. The story repeats on next start-up.
This is FC6 and I am using fluxbox as my window manager. What can be the problem here?

This is a very old bug in XOrg that has not been fixed till now. A workaround you may use is adding the following line to the InputDevice section of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf: Option "XkbOptions" "altwin:meta_win"

this works indeed Marcelo, thanks a lot. I'll stay with this method until they fix the bug *hoping*

Isn't this in bugzilla (I can not find it and hate to do it myself for every system)? Shouldn't this workaround be enabled by default 'till the bug is fixed upstream?

It's in xorg's bugzilla, but I don't remember the bug number.

Maybe it isn't because it has collateral effects depending on the language you use. In my case, the right Alt should behave differently from the left one (AltGR, for symbols), and I loose this functionality if I use the workaround above. Instead, I use: Option "XkbOptions" "altwin:left_meta_win" With this option I have AltGR on the right Alt key, but then only the left Win key works. Oh, well, I can live with that until the bug is fixed (if it will ever be)... Maybe someone more knowledgeable with X configuration can come up with other solution that keeps both AltGR and the two Win keys working. If there is such workaround, I think it should be enabled by default while upstream don't fix the bug.

Thanks, later today I'll sign up this bug and add some info.

well, seems like I rushed too much. Just rebooted the machine again and lost my Win key. Using the old method.
