Remove the flash-plugin package, download it from Adobe and copy the "libflashplayer.so" into ~/.mozilla/plugins (create the directory if it does not exist). Restart Firefox. You're done.

Choose the ".tar.gz for other linux" from the dropdown menue.

CPU, rather than GPU. Refers to SSE2 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSE2
$ grep sse2 /proc/cpuinfo
Flash player 11.2.202.228 doesn't work with Firefox under Linux https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3161034
If someone because of this restriction intends to install 10.3.183.90, the following should be taken into account https://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb13-16.html ... For users of Flash Player 10.3.183.86 and earlier versions for Linux, who cannot update to Flash Player 11.2.202.291, Adobe has made available the update Flash Player 10.3.183.90, which can be downloaded here. Note: Beginning July 9, 2013, Adobe Flash Player 11.7.x will replace version 10.3.x as the extended support version. Adobe recommends users upgrade to version 11.7.x in order to continue to receive security updates. See this blog post for further details.
Besides YouTube HTML5 Video Player should be taken into account https://www.youtube.com/html5

For me, I found that the "Flashblock" addon needed to be disabled before flash would work again.

These two conditions are contradictory, rather than strange: "In Addons/plugins Flasplayer is Always Activated." & "... flash-plugin installed but firefox wasn't finding it ..."

That is my experience as well, looks like there was a bug report filed with mozdev back a month and a half ago: https://www.mozdev.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=25883
