Howdy all, here are some Fedora virt status bits for August.
Fedora 18
=========
Fedora 18 has slipped a few weeks due to ongoing trouble with some blocker
bugs that release engineering wants fixed before the alpha goes out:
http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/devel-announce/2012-August/00097...
The current F18 schedule:
Sep 11: Alpha release
Oct 02: Beta change deadline
Oct 04: Virtualization Test Day
Oct 16: Beta Release
Nov 05: Final Change Deadline
Nov 20: GA Release
Unfortunately this means the scheduled virt test day is no longer after the
beta release, but thankfully still after the beta change deadline.
QEMU 1.2 Release Approaching
============================
QEMU is moving towards the 1.2 release, currently scheduled for this
Wednesday, September 5th:
http://wiki.qemu.org/Planning/1.2
If you want a sneak peak at what will eventually be the 1.2 changelog, see:
http://wiki.qemu.org/ChangeLog/Next
Currently QEMU 1.2 rc1 is available in rawhide and F18.
libvirt 0.10 release
====================
On August 29th, libvirt 0.10.0 was released! The release highlights:
- agent: add qemuAgentArbitraryCommand() for general qemu agent command
- Introduce virDomainPinEmulator and virDomainGetEmulatorPinInfo functions
- network: use firewalld instead of iptables, when available
- network: make network driver vlan-aware
- esx: Implement network driver
- driver for parallels hypervisor
- Various LXC improvements
- Add virDomainGetHostname
However there were a few serious issues in the release, so a 0.10.1 release
followed soon after with several important bug fixes:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/libvir-list/2012-August/msg01848.html
https://www.redhat.com/archives/libvir-list/2012-August/msg02028.html
0.10.1 is currently in rawhide. F18 has 0.10.0 rc2, and will have 0.10.1
fairly soon, once an updated netcf makes it to F18 stable.
Reviving QEMU PPC, Sparc
========================
Following the prerequisite work done in July, qemu-system-sparc and
qemu-system-ppc packages are now available in F18 and rawhide. See the package
list here:
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=350988
Additionally, KVM is now enabled for all targets that support it. This doesn't
change anything for the default fedora packages, but it allows the Fedora PPC
folks to get a KVM enabled qemu-system-ppc in their package builds.
Bug stats
=========
Bug count on Aug 02 2012: 208
Bug count on Sep 03 2012: 225
Another decent bump, with over half in libvirt. But there are definitely some
easy close candidates and a handful sitting in POST waiting for a build.
