currently:
$ yum groupinfo Virtualization Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit Setting up Group Process
Group: Virtualization Description: These packages provide a virtualization environment. Mandatory Packages: python-virtinst Default Packages: qemu-kvm virt-manager virt-viewer Optional Packages: gnome-applet-vm virt-top
but what about other useful virt packages that one might never even hear about, such as
virt-ctrl virt-df virt-mem
are any of these less useful than, say, virt-top? it might be useful to add all those extra packages into the "Optional" category, just so people will know they exist.

Just to let you know that virt-df [see .signature] is being rewritten using libguestfs & libvirt, and should appear 'RSN'. Virt-ctrl is kinda deprecated - you should use virt-manager instead. Virt-mem is good, but there's a rewritten version in the repository which needs some extra work.

fair enough -- i just did a "yum search virt" to see what was out there and i noticed those. i was playing with some of the utilities in virt-mem and not having much luck:
# virt-dmesg Fatal error: exception Failure("f1164: use -W to define word size for this image") #
it then went on to demand i specify the architecture, endianness, kernel text address, etc. is there some reason it can't figure that out?

Yes at the moment you have to specify all that, but the new version will autodetect it all from the image.

excellent, thanks for clearing that up.

p.s. i'm not *trying* to be picky, pedantic and anal-retentive about every gruesome detail. i am merely succeeding.
