Odd crash in webkitgtk in f14

Greetings. There's a pretty weird bug on webkitgtk in f14: SIGSEGV in FixedVMPoolAllocator from webkitgtk when starting surf, uzbl or luakit (WIP package) https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=648319 It seems to happen to people with a x86_64 install and less than 2GB of memory. I don't see it at all here with 4gb memory. Anyone have thoughts on how we can fix this? kevin

Addressing security issues

Hi All, I have been hanging around this list for some time, but this is my first post. I work for Red Hat Security Response team, and have recently taken over WebKit security from Vincent. I am also a member of upstream WebKit Security Group. For some time we have been trying to get WebKit-Gtk issues fixed upstream, [And as you know they have impact on other variants as well]. Releases 1.2.4 and 1.2.5 of WebKit-Gtk were mainly to address security fixes. However for some time, we have had no response from upstream folks. I think they are pretty busy with other stuff, which is quite understandable. The downside of that being the fact that we have a lot of open security issues not fixed in Webkit-Gtk and other variants as well. I was wondering if Fedora WebKit SIG could help in this matter, perhaps engage with upstream, back port security fixes or even ask for git commit access so that we could commit these fixes directly, So that the WebKit SIG and the Fedora community would take leadership in getting these issues fixed. java plugin status

Greetings. Do we have any folks that know/talk to the openjdk maintainers? The java plugin + webkit is in some turmoil still, IMHO. F12 & F13: version 1.6.0.0-42.b18.fc13 and 1.6.0.0-40.b18.fc12 are available, but at least some crash reports are still there: says it still happens: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=615502#c25 these midori bugs seem related still (it's not the same glibc kill, it's something else, but it sure looks java plugin related. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=598947 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=600698 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=612045 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=632795 F14 & rawhide: Are currently inheriting an old f13 build (1.6.0.0-41.b18.fc13) Shouldn't they at least have the same build version as f13? I don't see crashes with this version, but I do see 100% cpu hangs and other odd behavior. Thoughts? kevin

Updated Wiki members list - Security Group members

Hi, I've updated Wiki with information about members of upstream's WebKit Security Group as sometimes it can be usefull to contact someone with access to security marked bugs. Not everything can be exposed usually but it can probably help sometimes - if the bug leads to non private bugs, status of fix or if bug is not made public after embargo passed etc. I hope it's ok - Vincent, Josh... Also please update/add yourself into the list. I've added "Important links" section - currently WebKit only links. Feel free to extend. inspector

Greetings. There's a reasonable request in: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=566744 about moving the webkit inspector into the main package from the -devel subpackage. The inspector is useful for many people who may not want to install the needed 31(!) devel packages to have it. I looked at just moving it into the main package and it seems to work just fine in there in midori at least. There's a f14 scratch build here: http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=2462354 Thoughts? Any objections to moving it? kevin

webkitgtk updates

Greetings. I mailed pgordon a while back and have not yet heard anything back. ;( Would anyone object to me updating webkitgtk to fix the current pending security issues? Currently we have: f12: 1.2.0 f13: 1.2.0 f14: 1.3.2 rawhide: 1.3.2 I'd like to update f12/f13 to 1.2.3 and the others I guess to 1.3.3. Not sure why we moved f14/devel to the development stream, does anyone know? I'd like to do this soon as it's been way too long already... but I can hold off if there is a good reason. (ie, if a newer release is just about to happen upstream or something). Thoughts? kevin

midori bugs

Also, just a heads up... I went and triaged/dealt with the pending midori bugs in bugzilla this last week. Went from 71 down to 15. ;) https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/acls/bugs/midori Most of the ones that are left are quite possibly webkit (according to midori upstream). Should I reassign those over to webkitgtk? Or would folks here like to take a look and see if they can make anything of them/add upstream webkit bugs? I'll note that there are still f14/rawhide java bugs, as java in f14/rawhide does not seem to be the updated version that works. :( (only f12/f13 were updated). kevin

Hi all, first - thanks for your interest in WebKit in Fedora - for both users and developers! Bureaucracy: Check SIG's wiki page [1], put your name on the list. I'm not sure we need any regular meetings - and we can setup one if needed. Mailing list should be enough - it's public mailing list, both for users and devels (now) but I prefer to stay more devel oriented (with possible help for users, not a WebKit chat/forum etc.). We do not need private ML right now - for security issues - let's handle it in bz CC list (after responsibilities are set - see bellow). Tasks: * Martin Sourada already started filling the Wiki page with the list of current known WebKit packages and dependencies [2]. Please take a look and update the page acording your knowledge - it's essential to know what we have now in Fedora, what's the current state and we can start to look how to best maintain the whole WebKit stack. * Vincent Danen is trying to cleanup all the security related mess around WebKit's - webkit-security upstream team, webkitgtk. I'll try to poke Trolls out there. Also we should set up responsibilities on our side too - who's responsible for updates, how to deal with security updates etc. We left a lot of moderate issues behind us. Bugs: * #615502 is now fixed (java-1.6.0-openjdk-plugin 1.6.0.0-42.b18) - but it's unacceptable to break nearly all non-Firefox browsers because of Firefox fix. I already talked to the guy who pushed it ;-) Any other ideas to start with? Thanks (for listening, uf reading and commitment!)
