[ANN] Fedora Project Wiki Policy Change

The Fedora Foundation has decided that all Fedora documentation, including the fedoraproject.org wiki, will be licensed under the terms of the Open Publication License 1.0[1] without options. Unfortunately, the Fedora Project does not have copyright privileges over the wiki's existing content. Since we have allowed anyone to edit the wiki without any sort of licensing or copyright assignment, we cannot cover the existing content without the agreement of each contributor. To solve this issue, we have come up with a plan[2]. Our plan will require that all contributors complete the CLA in the Fedora Account System[3] before joining the EditGroup. In order to facilitate our new changes, the EditGroup will be frozen effective immediately and through the weekend. Those of you who are in the EditGroup can continue to make edits during that time, but no new contributors are to be added to the EditGroup during the freeze. Everyone who is in the EditGroup but has not completed the CLA will be removed after this weekend. If you are currently in the EditGroup and have not completed the CLA, please take the time to do so now. This agreement will allow us to license your contributions under the OPL. If you have completed the CLA, but are removed after the weekend, contact someone in the revised EditGroup to add you again. All current EditGroup members who are removed will have their name added to a tracking page[4]. If your name is moved to that list, you will need to complete the CLA and remove yourself from the list to indicate that you agree to having your past contributions licensed under the OPL. DO NOT REMOVE OTHERS from this list. It will be monitored. After an undetermined waiting period, all contributions made by names still on this list will be removed from the wiki. The connection between Wiki and CLA is manual, that is, Patrick et al are looking over the lists and making comparisons. If someone has wildly different usernames, you'll be asked to sign a CLA, and you can just reply back that you have one and under what name. Your GPG signature on that email would seal the deal. :) We'll be sure to make that point in the email to the people we request a CLA from. CLA for Wiki contributions

Further research and discussion with the Foundation counsel brings a simple resolution to this. We need a single CLA signed for code, documentation, Wiki pages, etc. Let's do it. Of the 345 folks in EditGroup, a subset have not signed the CLA, and of that, a subset have actually contributed to the Wiki. Those people we need to identify and explain the situation. AP Websites team -- we need: * A one-stop page for the CLA-to-be to work from - can someone with a few minute throw up a straw man plan? * If feasible, divide the group of CLA-needy amongst Docs and Websites volunteers to provide personal assistance, explanations, hand-holding, etc. * ??? AP Patrick -- let's pull the ripcord on this. How should we announce? We need to hit fedora-devel-list, since I reckon a small group is there. What else? Just create a mass Bcc: list from the account records? Should filter out the have-CLA-already first. Topic Names in Wiki Translations

Hau! Little by little, I'm translating the Wiki content to my language (pt_BR) and now I began to wonder about the translation method, as described in http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Languages (quaid said to me about this page). When translating a Wiki Topic, the translator should create a topic with another name (translated to another language), and then include this topic->translation to the "LanguageDict" page (for example, FrenchDict). But since I began to translate, I had to begin changing Wiki links within the pages a lot, and as the translations grow, this becomes very difficult to mantain without errors. What is the utility of the "LanguageDict" page right now? I thought that wiki could translate the links automactically, but I don't know how. What's the solution for this? Using the "GetVal" command (as in the FedoraMain page), changing all the links within the wiki translated pages, or using the english name? (or something else?) Knowledge Base for Fedora

Hi I tried to get this effort rolling a few months back but havent had much traction with it yet. What is required is a FAQ management system basically that can be installed in fedoraproject.org site and viewable from kbase.fedoraproject.org. Community can contribute. Groups of editors would approve it. All the contributions would be licensed under OPL and the content can only cover Free and open source software with very few if any exceptions for interoperability. Porting applications from Solaris OS to Linux . Please help.

Hi All, I am a student working on a migration project. Could anybody please suggest a suitable tool for porting the Solaris application to Red hat Linux fedora core. Is there any ready made tool available. I found one with IBM and HP .. but those are all for their customers and couldn't get one as IBMs can be used on SPARC only. I am trying to do this on x86.Any tool in Open source. Please help. Thanks and Regards, GG.
