Subject: Updates
Hello,
I have been trying to update my Fedora 8 box now for sometime but i keep
getting this error:
file /usr/share/java/avalon-logkit.jar from install of
excalibur-avalon-logkit-2.2.1-0.r508111.3jpp conflicts with file from
package avalon-logkit-1.2-4jpp.5.fc7
Can you please point me in the right direction so I can rectify this
problem?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I assume that you're referring to the page at
http://pills23.pillsmag.info/. That is a test page included with our
operating system; we don't actually control the site in question. For
more information, please refer to

It was just brought to my attention that
http://www.fedoraproject.org/get-fedora talks about "GNOME Live Media".
There is no such thing. We have a Desktop spin. I'd appreciate if we can
avoid stupid GNOME vs KDE games and just call it the Desktop spin.
Thanks,
Matthias

Subject: fedora 8 MD5
Hello,
I have recently downloaded fedora 8, as well as a couple other
distros, and i have been able to check that the others downloaded
correctly by checking the MD5 sum, after searching for a while on your
mainpage, I have been unable to find the correct MD5 sum for the i686
Live CD, and i wish to be able to verify that the download went
smoothly, so I do not find out later that my data is corrupted, and it
will not work.
Thanks

Hi
A friend of mine is getting back into Linux after a *very* long absence
(perhaps never used it, only UNIX). He originally installed Ubuntu but I
pointed him to the fedora website after I said I could better help with
issues (I really only use RHEL and Fedora).
His comments on the download site were along the lines of "What does all
this mean?" "What's i686?" "How do I know what I'm supposed to
download?" "What's Gnome/KDE live media?"
Perhaps in the interests of smoothing the way for people who don't know
much about Fedora (or Linux in general), and the different install
options, you could introduce some basic help text or sub-headings to
help get them up and running.
cheers
