probing of my server
by jim nichols
Someone from this web address was probing my server as an administrator using, I would guess a password generator and trying to access my site through a brute force attack. If you wish access to my server please respond and I will set you an account up as it is a music server for my friends.
The probe was launched from 192.268.1.107 port 22
please inquirer as to the reason for this... I understand as I was a geek myself and still am!

Make x86_64 more visible or even the default choice
by drago01
Hi,
Currently the website focuses on the x86 version of fedora and the
x86_64 version is hidden so unless the user knows that he is searching
for it, he will just download the x86 version.
We should promote the x86_64 as the default choice with a visible link
"For older PCs and Netbooks click *here*" (More information)".
In F11 effort was made to change the default x86 arch from i386 to
i586 to gain extra performance, but benchmarks that I have done back
than have clearly showed that you gain much more from moving moving to
x86_64.
Not only that you have access to more registers MMX, SSE and SSE2 can
be used unconditionally.
Besides this x86_64 allows the use of more memory and memory prices
are dropping significantly lately. (Desktops running 12GB of RAM is
nothing impossible or overly expensive now).
Please don't let this end up in ix86 vs x86_64 flamewar.
Yes they are cases where x86 is the better choice (when memory and
diskspace are limited, but that exactly is covered by "older hardware
and netbooks")
So please consider changing the default to x86_64.
P.S:

I tend to do one at a time, but send-email will actually do it all.
In my ~/.gitconfig I have the following settings:
user.name=Paul W. Frields
user.email=stickster(a)gmail.com
user.signingkey=0xbd113717
sendemail.smtpserver=smtp.gmail.com
sendemail.smtpuser=stickster
sendemail.smtpencryption=ssl
Then I can do:
$ git send-email --compose --to <address(a)example.com>
--suppress-cc self --subject 'Some Subject' <commit1>..<commit2>
I use my $EDITOR to compose the cover message. Git asks for my SMTP
password and does the rest!

Sponsorship
by Paul W. Frields
Hello web team,
Several of us in Fedora have been asked to see if we can provide a
better handling for sponsorship. One of the things we're
investigating is how to properly reflect the different levels of
sponsorship, and portray that properly on specific Fedora web areas.
While we're figuring that out, though, as a sort of stop gap measure I
wanted to propose a change that would show the substantial resources
that our primary sponsor (Red Hat) puts into the Project, while not
changing the overall tenor of the sponsors page or the gratitude that
we have for all our sponsors.
Here's a mockup of my change:
http://pfrields.fedorapeople.org/temp/sponsor-stopgap-proposed.png
I have a git patch I can send once you look this over.
