This was also reported in ticket:1438, but there it was about a wiki page not being displayed properly. Instead of fixing the root of the problem, the page was adjusted to display the content. I guess this is not possible for the diff, therefore I open a new bug report. = recommendation = Maybe the CSS for diffs could be changed to show a horizontal scrollbar somehow. Embedded pictures and headers aren't formatted properly so text can flow around it, even in extreme situations. The sidebar takes up too much space at high DPIs leaving only half the page for the body. First of all, the sidebar is strictly set to a hard size in relation to the rest of the page. Second of all, horizontal scrolling is (and rightly so) disabled at all costs. Third of all, something is not set properly when formatting embedded inline pictures, so that the sidebar can wrap around it, or so that it's left justified instead of right justified so it runs off the page rather than running into the sidebar. = recommendation = Wikipedia has a pretty decent mobile interface that works very nicely on the Android devices, and presumably on others as well. It avoids using a sidebar and TOC by replacing it with expandable fields. I think that at least having that stylesheet available would be a start. The tricky part is detecting the actual dimensions *and* DPI of a screen and switching to the appropriate stylesheet. In this particular example, the screenshots were taken on an XO using mostly stock settings and Firefox. A lot of people like the timed swapping of content such as you have in the top half of the page, but I have to say I always find it irritating. The timer never has any idea if I'm half way through looking at something when it swaps it out :-). In page 1 of the content, I think it is reaching a bit to describe fedora with the word "stable". I wouldn't consider any release with a 6 month release cycle as "stable", and googling in the fedora user's list could probably find thousands of messages with people jumping on users running fedora as a server telling them they should use centos or rhel if they want a stable release for a server.

*Hello.* On transition from http://fedoraproject.org/ru/get-fedora-all and some others to home page (using menu), I see unloaded menu and numbers 1 to 4 in it's top left corner. Platform: linux x64, google chrome 8.0 dev. Screenshot in attachment. There's no such problem in firefox. Maybe, it's just a chrome problem( *Best regards, gross.*

Results of website testing

Hello all, I was suspicious that the results of our testing would not be available until after release. This was always the likely possibility. Additionally, I spent quite a bit of time wrestling with a video of a presentation our class put together, and I've decided that this is not the bottleneck we want in reporting back the results of our explorations. As part of CMPSCI 303: Human Centered Design, three groups of students at Allegheny each engaged in a lo-fi testing process of several different parts of the fp.org website. We used this as a "sprint" through the testing process -- we carried out this work as our first exploration of paper prototyping and user testing, and does not represent expert work. Instead, it represents an exploration that allowed us to move into our second project with more confidence. The reports are linked in from our class wiki: http://wiki.rockalypse.org/HCD/Website_Testing_Results The students' discoveries are reflected, in some cases, in the current design. We might take this as ex post facto validation of some of the design elements in the site. Some of their work might inform further evolution. Comments on our work is welcome -- this was the first time we attempted anything like this, and turning around this kind of process within a month in a classroom context is challenging. (That, and I'm still learning to use the video equipment... clearly, I have some infrastructure issues that need to be resolved.) Fedora Project web site redesign has some serious problems

I'm not sure if y'all realize it, but the newly redesigned Fedora Project web site has some issues with how it renders on Firefox (3.6.10) on Windows (XP). I've attached some screen shots, and describe the problems I see below. Some of the problems are clearly a result of a bad interaction with Adblock Plus, but since this is a very widely used Firefox add-on, you may want to consider re-coding your pages to avoid problems with this add-on: 1) If users have Adblock Plus enabled, the [1][2][3][4] boxes don't render and the top section of the home page doesn't change (no big deal -- that's to be expected with Adblock Plus). See fedoraproject_home_page_with_adblock_01.PNG and fedoraproject_home_page_no_adblock_01.PNG to see the page with Adblock enabled and disabled. 2) If users have Adblock Plus enabled, the page renders with really messed up layout -- sections of the page render on top of each other, some links don't work (e.g., the link to Fedora 14), and the page generally looks like somebody really badly mangled the CSS. See fedoraproject_home_page_with_adblock_01.PNG and fedoraproject_home_page_with_adblock_02.PNG versus fedoraproject_home_page_no_adblock_01.PNG and fedoraproject_home_page_no_adblock_02.PNG for examples. On the other hand, not all the problems are caused by Adblock Plus: 1) The new font renders really poorly. The rendering reminds me of what I see when a 1280x1024 image is rendered on a 1024x768 projector. Hopefully you can get these problems cleaned up and the page back to looking beautiful again quickly, especially as Fedora 14 is right around the corner! HI, I just wanted to say that I like the redesign of fedoraproject.org. It looks a lot more open for people to find information and I think does a better job at showcasing Fedora. My one complaint with the website is that the font looks a little crummy on Firefox and Windows 7 (it looks great on F13 though!). [PATCH] Fix slide images for older browsers

Looks like the reason that slides 2 and 3 aren't working is because of the gradients that were added in the 27th (according to git blame) but weren't tested well enough. This patch definitely fixes older browsers, but I don't know if the gradient still happens on gecko/webkit, so please test if you're actually running an up-to-date version of Fedora (I'm not). I can push this if I get a few people saying that the gradient still works in new stuff. Some of the fonts on the latest site look pretty bad in Firefox. Sample screens attached. I'm on Windows7 x64, I have a few Firefox add-ons but nothing weird, and nothing that should effect fonts. Dear webmaster, You need to seriously consider reverting to the old website. The new one is buggy, incomplete, disfunctional, and just not well done. The old one was much more to the point, serious and well-designed. It just needed better navigation and content. You are making a big mistake with this website, and should take it down at least until it is noticeably improved. Have you even seen the site under the latest version of Google Chrome (not Chromium)? Hi, Just to say, I love the new look of the website, but when viewing from work (Windows XP/Firefox 3), the font rendering of the custom fonts in your CSS stylesheet looks rather odd. I have not updated the wrong link from the index (the counter one, which is pointing to "get-fedora"). Please, add other changes that would affect the POT update, before applying my patch. (it is a MAJOR update... adding 350 strings!!!) * That's the second reason why I haven't already applied it (even without updating the pot file) * The first reason is that, by checking my local build, I get some tag diplayed instead of interpreted. It is really late for me (3 am), That would be nice if you can find what I've done wrong. hints: check using/tutorials/cheese.html (the "strong" tags are displayed, even if the source code is correct). Attempting to use BFO.usb

Since I can't get Fedora 13 to install from a CD, I thought I would try BFO.... I'm a Linux/Fedora newbie so providing a download file named bfo.usb (I want to use a USB for booting) which LiveUSB creator doesn't even see is not helpful to me. Changing it's name to bfo.iso didn't get me anywhere either since LiveUSB failed the file with: "bfo.iso selected Verifying filesystem... Extracting live image to USB device... Patch to fix some RTL and Hebrew related problems

Hi there, I've made *many* changes yesterday on the FEL part. Many Markup stuff was forgotten. I haven't pushed my changes yet, I need to check some links before. Just let me know If you are again those changes. Basically, there were a ot of strings not marked as translatable. I've found that ${Markup(' is compiling but not adding string in the POT file. Please, remind it! I gonna update all websites about it. I've seen it in few others. It should be $Markup(_(' This is used in many strings where URLs are added as argument. Some changes in master

With the advice and assistance of Sijis and Mo, I committed some changes in to the 'master' branch, specifically to the about-fedora page. Here's a summary of what I did: * Simplified the language somewhat. What was there was a completely accurate copy of our wiki, but given the general website is going to be read by lots of people not familiar with our project, I tried to make the text very approachable. * At first I removed the four foundations because it seemed like overkill to me -- but Mo helpfully reminded me that these are landing spots for the index.html page's links to those foundations. So again, I simplified the text somewhat to make it easier to understand. * I provided template markup for everything, but I hope anyone will feel free to double-check my work! :-) What I *didn't* do is to create new POT and merge the existing PO files. I didn't do this because before we make the translators go any further, I wanted the Websites team to be in agreement with these text changes. (If they don't meet with approval, it's easy to revert them!) So what has to happen is: * Approval of changes * Notify L10n we're going to change POT and make sure no one reacts really negatively * Build POT, merge PO and push Paul

Problems with the new website layout and Finnish translations

Hi again, I managed to finish and commit Finnish translations to the master branch of the website. It seems like the new layout doesn't handle long words and paragraphs too well, see <http://stg.fedoraproject.org/fi/>. The last link in the link bar flows to the next line and almost gets hidden. 'Ensin.', which means 'First.', also flows to the next line. In the Design Suite screen the More information text ends up on top of the number boxes. I see similar problems in <http://stg.fedoraproject.org/fi/features/#overview> as well. -- Ville-Pekka Vainio

But I cannot register as a new user, so I cannot log in, so I cannot create a new issue. '100%' is causing problems with translation

Hi websites people, I've been translating the new website and I noticed the phrase '100%' is used in a few places. This seems to cause problems with translation. If I leave it out completely, 'msgfmt -cvo /dev/null file.po' says "number of format specifications in 'msgid' and 'msgstr' does not match". If I use '100%%' in the translation, I get the same error. If I just use '100%', msgfmt says "'msgstr' is not a valid Python format string, unlike 'msgid'. Reason: In the directive number 1, the character 'v' is not a valid conversion specifier.", where the character is whatever happens to be after '100%'. I think '100%' should be replaced with an English word which wouldn't cause these problems. -- Ville-Pekka Vainio

Problems with the Hebrew translation of spins.fedoraproject.org

Hello all. While testing the Hebrew translation of spins.fedoraproject.org I've encountered many problems, most of them are related to the fact that Hebrew is an RTL language (written from right to left). 1. when selecting he (language code for Hebrew) in the language selection menu and clicking OK, i get this page: http://spins.fedoraproject.org/?lang=he and it shows the English version of the site. the only way for a user to see the Hebrew version of the site is manually changing the URL to: http://spins.fedoraproject.org/he/ 2. the slogans of the spins showed in the main page appear untranslated, but if you click on a spin (eg. design) you can see the slogan translated. 3. the big download button in the right side of the screen ("Download Now!") is untranslated. but the small download buttons, in the download tab of each spins, which has the same text, are translated. 4. the Fedora Spins logo appears on the navigation menu. i think the menu layout should be the same for Hebrew and English (move the logo back to it's original place, don't move the menu), but it will look nicer if those small icons near the navigation links would be on the left side of the link, and not the right side. please fix those problems. thanks. -- >Elad

how to block website

Dear Sir, We used to block website containing certain words like sex , porn etc on redhat by using followind lines in redhat acl bad regex -i sex porn but using the same lines we are unable to block these contents in fedora. [PATCH] Makefile updates (for adding all locales). Review needed

Hi there, With Sijis we were speaking about automatically adding all languages in the select box for each websites. To do that, we need to duplicate the LINGUAS file from fedoraproject.org/po/ (the more complete file) in each sub domains. But while building, pyhton will interrupt with a "file not found" error. In order to prevent that, I've just made a patch for updating the Makefile. Please, tell me if there is something wrong. (I am just filling a fake po file when the page is not localized). If nobody complains, I'll update them all (talk, boot, spins... .fpo.o) and their LINGUAS file on Saturday. And then, someone will do the infra job :). We will never have to add their LINGUAS local anymore :) (only if a new localization team come along). And that will correct many localized page not accessible.
