planet doesn't publish my blog
by Ionuț Arțăriși
Hi,
I've had my blog published on the Planet Fedora for a long time now, but
for the last two weeks my posts have stopped appearing. I haven't
changed anything in my setup.
The feed I'm using is this: http://mapleoin.bluepink.ro/tag/fedora.xml
Today's post should be on the planet, but it isn't. What could the
problem be?
Thanks.

by Lu QIAO

I have a question how Network Manager switches from 3G to 2G automatically.
Are there some scripts to let him do it ? And how measure the signal quality
of 3G or 2G ?
Is there a way to let Network Manager release device when the internet
connection is on ?
Thanks for your attention, Your answer will be appreciated.
Best wishes.

Accessing old releases
by Bob McKay
Hi; there seems to be a structure problem in the fedora download
website.
.It's easy to get the current release - nicely designed (thanks)
.It's hard, but not impossible, to find out-of-support releases of
fedora (currently,
this means up to F10). This requires following the links
All Download Methods
See old versions of Fedora
archive
from the main download page. I think this needs some fixing
("See old versions of Fedora" should also be available from the
"View more Fedora options" page), but it's not to bad.
.There is no link _at all_ that I can find to the supported-but-not-
current
releases (i.e. Fedora 11 and 12 at the moment). This is bad, because
it means that if someone can't run F13 for some reason, they are likely
to revert to (unsupported) F10. The only way I could find to get F11
(which I need to check some software back-compatibility) was to
find the F13 download link, then reconstruct what the F11 link must
be. Fortunately, the links are very systematic, and it worked. But this
really isn't the way it should be...
Thanks and Best Wishes
Bob McKay

Re: Accessing Old Releases
by Bob McKay
My apologies, it seems my earlier email was unclear. To re-phrase:
Supported releases (except for the current release) appear to be
not linked at all from the download site. Unsupported releases are
linked
(though not that obvious). It seems to me that the supported releases
should
be more visible than the unsupported ones.
I agree that finding old releases shouldn't be trivial - it wouldn't
be good if
people downloading them by accident. But I don't think dropping all
links to
old releases is a suitable solution. There are legitimate reasons -
most notably,
regressions in current releases - why users might need to download
non-current releases (problems with wireless card drivers are an obvious
recent case).
Best Wishes
Bob

Web content permission requested
by HCzurylo@polk.edu

TO: Fedoraproject.com
Dear Fedoraproject.org,
To help address the current, nation-wide shortage of qualified Linux technicians, developers, and administrators, Polk State College (PSC) and University of South Florida Polytechnic (USFP) are collaborating in a joint project, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), to develop curricula for advanced, comprehensive 2-year and 4-year degree programs specializing in Linux administration which would be delivered online.
Recently, we have been very impressed by the outstanding quality of the educational, non-proprietary Linux content found on your organization's public access website at http://www.fedoraproject.org <http://www.fedoraproject.org/> . We strongly believe that having our students view this material would greatly enhance their knowledge and understanding of Linux. However, as a practice, we typically avoid directing students to content on third party servers that are not hosted by academic institutions because of uncertainties surrounding the long-term availability of the content and associated URLs. Nevertheless, we believe your content would be so beneficial to our students that a workaround ought to be explored. Therefore, we request your permission to replicate and host your educational, non-proprietary Linux content on our academic course servers without charge so that it may be incorporated into our Linux curricula. The specific content for which we request permission is listed on page 3 of this letter.
Naturally, the prospective Linux technicians, developers and administrators which take our courses would be made aware of this content's origin and authorship via a clearly displayed statement of credit/acknowledgement. It could have the following format, or any alternate that you specify:
The following (or previous) excerpt courtesy of Fedoraproject.org,

{URL}
Please note that our use of your content would be strictly for traditional academic/educational purposes, and access to it would be restricted to our students, instructors, and academic support staff via a password protected CMS (course management system). However, please be aware that since this is an NSF funded project, it is possible our curricula may be made available by the NSF for use by other academic institutions and thereby be seen by students outside the geographic areas we serve.
If you do choose to grant this request, kindly indicate your permission in a reply correspondence or simply sign and return this letter to the address indicated. An extra copy of this letter has been enclosed for your records. Also, if you have a preferred source/method for us to utilize in replicating your content, please let us know.
We appreciate your consideration and hope for your support of this request.
Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Cliff Bennett
Program Director
