start.fedoraproject.org is ugly.
by susmit shannigrahi
Hi All,
After the introduction of new start page, I found the concept very
nice and the page somehow ugly.
A few fixes will be nice, if possible.
1. Scrap the lines below the headers in announcement section. It reads
like this:
"Ryan Rix: Fedora accepted in to Google Summer of Code 2011!: Heya
folks :) <br /> So... after a year's hiatus, Fedora's been
accepted in to Google's Summer of Code program for summer 2011!
<br /> If you're a university student looking for a job this
summer, start thinking about some awesome idea that you'd like to
make happen in Fedora this summer. [...]"
1.1 Why can not we merge both planet and announcement?
2. All the dates are Wed, 23 Mar 2011 20:24:43 +0000, do we need +0000
instead of UTC? Do we need dates at all?
3. Instead of wasting space in a very big footer, dedicate some space
specifically about join fedora and how to get help in the content div.
4. Do we need the redhat logo twice?
Thanks.

Susmit.

RFC: My suggested improvements to start.fpo
by Elad
Hello everyone.
Currently, start.fpo looks like this [1]. I don't like that all
controls are in one line, So I made this[2].
I told about it to another Fedora user, and he suggested that we add
an option to search in Fedora Package Database and Fedora wiki. I've
implemented this. screenshot [3].
Please note that in the third screenshot, the header height is 146px,
and there is a reason for that: Jef said he wanted the header size to
be the same in all fedora website. In fp.o, the header is 116px high,
and the menu is 30px high, and looks like part of the header. In
start.fpo there is no menu, so the header height can be 116+30, and it
still looks constant when going from start.fpo to fp.o.
More screenshots: Hover over the search button[4], Package Database is
selected[5].
What do you think? any suggestions/ideas for more improvements?

Self-introduction email
by thomas arndt
Hi,
My name is Thomas Arndt. I am currently a student working towards a
Bachelor of Science in Information Technology with a Concentration in
Web Development. I have been developing websites in my spare time for
over 10 years now. Just the past year or 2 I really started getting
involved with more advanced languages.
I just recently did a full conversion to Fedora after using Windows
for almost my whole life. I am very pleased with it so far and I
wanted to be apart of this and help out in any way I can.
Thanks.

search from main page?
by mark preston
Hi,
Why is the search from the main web page gone from fedoraproject.org?
why would anyone design a main page that doesn't have some ability to
search the entire site?
cheers,
m.

Fedora Package Database -- Invalid PackageBuild Name
by Georg Glock
Hello,
I was just facing some problems with your web-site.
I'm running Fedora 14 with DNSSEC enabled. Since a
while I'm facing some problems with system shutdown
(the named process seems to hang...). Therefore I was
searching for some answers on the web, but it seems
that I'm the only one.
While searching around I got also to:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/DNSSEC
Near the bottom of this page are some 'related packages'
links.
But they all together lead me to:
e.g., https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/packages/name/bind
where I am told to report about that particular fact.
Maybe this information is of help to you. Even if my
particular problem is not solved by this... ;-)
Best regards
G.Glock
