#246: fedora.css sets a universal scaling factor of 76%, which is much too small

fedora.css, which all Fedora websites are encouraged to use, has this
right at the top:
body
{
font-size: 76%;
background: #FFFFFF url(../images/border-left.png) 0 0 repeat-y;
}
It's been there for years, since before the stuff was imported to git, so
its history may be obscure at this point, but Googling around, it looks
like 76% was considered a 'rule' by some so-called authorities at some
point. http://www.sitepoint.com/css-font-sizing-tutorial/ has mention of
it in the comments, http://forums.modx.com/thread/?thread=17583 has some
chatter about it, http://www.baekdal.com/insights/new-minimum-font-size is
from 2005 and cites 76% as the new *minimum* recommended font size, etc.
I think it's pretty unarguably too small for the modern day, though.
Taking the standard 'base size' for browsers - 16px - and using the 96dpi
convention, text at '76%' is 12.16px in size, which is equivalent to 9pt.
How many people do you know who have their desktops set to a 9pt font on a
modern system? Particularly a modern *laptop*. Reading text on Fedora
sites on most systems without zooming or overriding the CSS or setting a
large minimum px size in your browser (which is undesirable for other
reasons) is a pretty tiring experience even for me, and I still have
effectively perfect eyesight for reading text; it must be more or less
impossible for anyone with somewhat less than perfect eyesight.
Yes, this is the thing Felix Miata is always banging on about, but you
know what? Now I spent a day actually looking into this stuff, he's
absolutely damn right. Sorry, Felix. I hope this post was calm and
reasonable enough and brought enough numbers. :)

Possible Security vuln. in the site
by Nishaanth_Kumar
Hey I was testing some of the websites for Security Vulns.
I saw this bug in OpenHatch site.
It exists also it the homepage of Fedora.
I will also include the results of the scan.
It is a potential vulnerability.
*BUT THE SITE'S RELIABILITY IS ONE THING WHICH SHOULD BE ACCOUNTED FOR*
It may be also due to design implementation of the site.
Ignore in such case.
Here is the result,

Waiting for your reply :)
PEACE.

Contributing to web related tasks
by Nick Germaine
I like Fedora. Plain and simple.
I understand that free software needs contributors to succeed, and so I'm
offering my skills up to help out with the websites (I have seen quite a
few tickets in there).
First, here's an unfinished demo of a website that acts like a desktop:
http://pointybracket.net/demo
I worked on it a while ago and never finished it. It was kind of aimless
to begin with.
Here's some other sites I've done:
http://pointybracket.net
http://amsainc.com
http://mvit.ca
http://hillcanproductions.com
I'm currently working on a project management system usign PHP and a lot of
ajax stuff. It's not live anywhere because it's so early in development,
so I'll attach a screenshot.
You'll notice I'm on ubuntu. I was trying ou 14.04 to see if it's any
better, and still don't like it. lol.
Anyway, I'd like to join the team and help out.
Thanks

brazilian version
by Adriano Sousa
Prezados,
Escrevo para informar que talvez haja um erro de tradução.
Quando acessamos a tela de download, há uma informação ao lado da versão Gnome "Fedora por omissão", o correto é "Padrão do Fedora",não é isso?
Espero ter contribuído.
Cordialmente,
Adriano Sousa

Dear Sirs,
Probably there's an error in the brazilian version of the website.
As it can be seen near the Gnome version download option it is writen in portuguese "Fedora por omissão", It may be wrong, the right phrase would be "Padrão do Fedora", isnt it?
Greetings,

Heartbleed Vulnerability
by Christian Miller
Dear Website Administrator for the Fedora project. I was using a simple
Google dork, that I was tweaking to search for heartbleed vulnerable
websites when I stumbled upon the server status page of the fedora project.
The page in question is https://admin.fedoraproject.org/status/app1. This
page indicates the the Fedora project servers run open ssl 1.0.1e . This
version of open ssl is vulnerable to the heartbleed exploit. I recommend
updating your open ssl as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Chris Miller

Due to the "heartbleed" bug we need not only to upate cloud images, but
all images we actually provide, except the install media.
Most of them are already in place and are synching out on the mirrors in
these hours, you can find the new images here:[[br]]
http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/updates/20/
ARM, Cloud Images and Live Images are already there and have new CHECKSUM
files. We will also get Spins rebuilds soon. Please check the link to see
if releng build them, but wait a few hours more to let the images get on
the mirrors before updating.
We also need to check all the torrent files and change the path if needed!
