I've put two mockups together, one has some additions to our current page and the other is a re-envisioning by ivazquez. Both have the click re-directs enabled in them. Which do you prefer?
1) http://mmcgrath.fedorapeople.org/1/get-fedora
2) http://mmcgrath.fedorapeople.org/2/get-fedora
We need to pick which one ASAP so the translators don't duplicate more effort. Feel free to make suggestions / post your own but I'd like to pick the one we'll ship by Wed, sound good to everyone else?

I think the second one is better. It explains what x86 etc means but I think it can be improved.
We should probably show Live media as the first choice in the list and mention that we recommend it for the desktop users and that it can be installed to a hard disk.
If I wanted to download a CD image as opposed to a DVD image, the page doesn't make it obvious. Live image for x86_64 is DVD size as opposed to the x86 version which is CD size. I wouldn't able to get that information easily from the download page now.
We should explain what a torrent is.
The network installation option is not explained in this page as opposed the first one.
We should also note that the Free Media program is a volunteer one and encourage people to participate.
* Why does the install DVD have a mirror list choice but not the Live media?
* Have we decided which spins go to torrent.fedoraproject.org vs what goes into spins page? What's the difference between them? Where is that explained in a way end users reaching the page would understand it?
* Mo had a few mockups that made the spins page better than just a listing of torrent files. We should look into that. What's the status on the games spin?

I'm open to other opinions on this but for the majority of our users that don't follow Fedora, I think they'll be very disappointed in the live cd install process (which is basically just an image copy) there's no package selection and no upgrade. I think, for this release, its best we just call it a live CD and leave it at that.

I don't think that belongs on this page KISS.

Doesn't need to be on this page KISS.

If they want to learn more about the Free Media program they can do the research to find out, I don't think it belongs on the "get fedora" page. Even google finds :) http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=fedora+free+media+program&btnG=...
- Why does the install DVD have a mirror list choice but not the Live
media?
we could add that.
- Have we decided which spins go to torrent.fedoraproject.org vs what

spins.fedoraproject.org is not listed as torrent anywhere on the page. I did that intentionally to avoid confusion. "Torrent" is a distribution medium, spins are respins, they just so happen to use torrent.
- Mo had a few mockups that made the spins page better than just a
listing of torrent files. We should look into that. What's the status on the games spin?
AFAIK the games spin is ready, it's just waiting on releng to build the copy and send it (I've already had their test copy, uploaded it, added it to spins for test)

I don't know whether they would be disappointed. Live CD by design don't offer any package selection and other distributions are dealing with just fine. If the package selection is somewhat right, most users won't complain and just do some post installation configuration. The important things to highlight are:
* Live images are installable to hard disk or USB.
* The package selection and configuration is very good for a typical desktop user
We should explain what a torrent is.

You could explain it elsewhere or add a reference based on the existing material.
The network installation option is not explained in this page as opposed the first one.
Doesn't need to be on this page KISS.
Disagree. The fact that there is a network installation option at all is unknown to many users. You have to show that it does exist somewhere in that page. It is already highlighted in the existing page. Removing that is a regression.
We should also note that the Free Media program is a volunteer one and encourage people to participate.

Can't hurt to call it "volunteer Free Media program" and put in a sentence to participate similar to the sponsorsed media program or just combine those sentences.
"Consider participating in the Fedora Volunteer Free Media Program or Sponsored Media Program.

Right but that wasn't what I was referring to. Have we decided things like for example, does the Fedora KDE spin go into spins page or the official torrents page? Which of the spins are mirrored and which ones are just distributed via the torrent?

I'd actually argue thats a marketing decision (whether or not KDE is linked on the get fedora page or not) Simple icons would delineate between the two. My personal opinion is that nothing beyond the KDE and Gnome would be official at this point.
Right now no spins are mirrored though that may change soon.

Yes it is. So if I had to make the marketing decision, I would agree that GNOME and KDE should be both highlighted there. Also if only official spins can be mirrored, they both must be considered official spins.

I love ivazques' version, #2. I think that the top three sections should use the css that the bottom two use though, and I think the bottom two sections visually should be called out a little differently (pale grey or blue bg maybe?) but the text i think is right, the organization i think is right!

I think the second look better: less crowded, due to the use of those boxes but don't like it does not flow horizontally as the first one do.
I'm with the 2nd one as well it looks neater, but only if the boxes were next to one another, something like the icons on http://fedoraproject.org/join-fedora . when resized they moved accordingly and what not.

Here's an quick take on get-fedora using that idea: http://fedora.riczho.dyndns.org/test-get-fedora
The main goal here was to present all of the choices to the users, allowing them to narrow things down by download type, method, and architecture. I tried to use more of the available horizontal space, so it might look slightly repetitive now. Hopefully, some icons/graphics can make this easier to use/look at.
What do you think?

I still think we need to make it clear that the GNOME and KDE Live Media for x86 is CD size while the x86_64 edition is DVD size. We had lots of confusion on that in the previous release which we need to avoid now.
Other than that, pretty good.

Yeah I agree here, #2 is better, but it has the impression of pushing all content to the left side of the page.

I like the horizontal flow. It looks better to me
