You can add this HTML snippet:

There is a release-counter-ext.js for the countdown to final release;
I wonder if it could be upgraded so it would automatically turn over
from final -> alpha -> beta -> countdown -> final -> ....

display of Alpha / Beta banners in the release counter.

Probably just as easy to have a separate JavaScript for that too, they
cost little to add.

Why add that dependency if it isn't required?

None of the examples include an alt= with a text alterative to the image.

(This is someone who typically has javascript and image fetching disabled
while browsing.)

Yep, this is more what I've had in mind. I've totally forgot it was only
done for the countdown...
