RE: [Fedora-xen] Status of Xen on FC6 2.6.20.x - feedback
by John Casey
After 7 days of testing, I have found a potential instability with
Kernel-xen-2.6.20.2925 on FC6. Symptom: machine spontaneously rebooted
upon launch of tvtime. Previous launches of tvtime, 10+, were successful.
After reboot system was stable again (tvtime launched fine)
Nothing useful in xend.log, xend.debug.log, log/messages.
Environment: FC6, Intel Cor2, Hauppauge WinTV PCI, 4G Ram, WinXP Pro guest
Any suggestions on how to capture useful information if this happens again?

I've been using Kernel-xen-2.6.20.2925 now since its release on the 21st on
an FC6 Intel Core2 machine, 4GB Ram, Sata Disks, tv card. So far it seems
that all of the previous instability issues have been addressed. I am also
running a WinXp pro guest, running since the 21st, and have had no
instability issues.
Thanks guys.

I should point out, this is all actually in rawhide right now....
kernel-xen-2.6.20-2925.8.fc7 + xen-3.1.0-0.rc7.2.fc7
And since rawhide is in deep freeze now it is in pretty good shape. This
is the rc7 pre-release, and we'll update to the GA xen release very shortly
after Fedora 7 is released. There's no major changes missing there really.

Status of Xen on FC6 2.6.20.x
by John Casey
Can someone tell me or give me a pointer to the status of Xen on FC6 kernel
2.6.20.x? I've read about and experienced some serious instability on
2.6.20.x and was wondering when a stable release was expected. All of the
threads I've read say to use Xen on 2.6.18, but since Xen is not a critical
requirement for me, I'd like to wait until it comes out on 2.6.20 (or FC7)
which ever comes first.
Thanks,
John

Fedora 7 test 4 (6.93) / F7 RC2 Xen IPv6 (turned off) install problem
by fcxen user
# rpm -qa |grep xen
xen-libs-3.1.0-0.rc7.1.fc7
xen-3.1.0-0.rc7.1.fc7
kernel-xen-2.6.20-2925.9.fc7
I found one apparent cause of one of the problems I was having with new domU
installs on Fedora 7 test 4 (6.93) and F7 RC2.
If you turn off IPv6 support and try to assign a manual IPv4 address, you get
a stack trace on the Alt-1 console and on the Alt-3 console an error msg
saying "Cannot determine address family of [your install URL]".
Also, on F7 RC2 I got an error msg when trying to assign a netmask of
255.255.0.0 for an IPv4 address of 10.0.216.102 saying something must be
between 0 and 32 for IPv4?
I hope others can confirm this, not sure of the problem is with virt-manager,
Xen or the installer...
Still seeing this in dmesg, not sure if it is a problem:

Laptop hang on kernel-xen-2.6.20-1.2948.fc6
by Adhika Widjaya
Hi guys,
I'm experiencing weird stuff when using kernel-xen-2.6.20-1.2948.fc6.
I'm about to install SLED10 on top of my fc6. In the middle of
installation, my laptop hangs and what I did is press the power button
for 4 seconds.
second time is getting worse, after I turned on the virtual-manager
and I tried to navigate anywhere in the screen, my laptop hangs again.
does it have any thing to do with the xen kernel?
as far as I can think of, the problem is with the xen kernel which is
still not stable.
Please give a solution to this.
Regards,
Adhika

Basic help
by Desmond Chapman
Hello and how is everyone doing today?
I have installed Xen on Fedora core 5 and need to be pointed in the right
direction.
My two problems are:
1) How do I install from a cdrom? I don't know the path.
2) When I do log into the xen0 kernel it will run for fifteen minutes then
freeze. How do I fix this?
Thank you.

Is xen ready for HVM?
by Thomas Kocourek
I've been attempting to get a VM to boot via a floppy. I have tried all
sorts of parameter massages between create/shutdown of a full virtualization
domain. qemu-dm is running. When I look at the details of the virtual
machine, the disk/cdrom/floppy appear to be mapped correctly. I tried
shutting off SELinux to see if that might be interfering with the boot up.
Made no difference, so I re-activated it.
I end up with one of two scenarios: either the VM freezes after throwing up
the splash screen (pure floppy boot), or the VM boots from a CDRom, but
fails to be recognized as a CDRom once the boot up is completed. Strange how
a stripped down QEMU (qemu-dm) won't do the hardware management correctly,
yet a pure QEMU will.
guest OS: Windows 98 SE
IS there a chance that the hypervisor security is interfering with the HVM?
A pure QEMU VM is such a resource hog and I wanted to try xen to see if the
situation was any better. I have certain software which requires this older
Windows to function.
Comments?

aloa,

no, that's not an option. i have an existing FC1 machine and i need to
get this one working in a xen enviroment. there HAS TO be a way to get
it working ;)
