Goal: Make XFCE rock in Fedora

Hi all,
as some of you might have noticed (on fedora planet) I have switched
from gnome to xfce and I like xfce very much. However, IMHO there are
issues that need to be addressed to make xfce a first class citizen. I
put together an initial list of them in my wiki space:

Feel free to chime in and edit the page (or its Talk: page) if you feel
something is missing/wrong. Since next major release of xfce (4.10) is
scheduled for next January we're probably talking here about Fedora 17
time frame. So let's join forces and make XFCE rock in Fedora 17.

claws-mail not respecting ~/.mime-types

Hi everyone,
I wanted to set the mime type for certain attachments to text/plain so
I have the following line in my ~/.mime-types.
text/plain txt asc text pm el c h cc hh cxx hxx cpp f90 C log org tex
But this doesn't seem to work, it always uses /etc/mime-types and I
have to set it by hand every time. Any thoughts?

Xfce Spin Beta - Thoughts, feedback requested.

Hello XFCE land!
I've been unfortunately busy lately and just today got a chance to
download the Fedora 15 Xfce Spin Beta image. I have fired it up and its
*really* good, the install process went great and the Xfce upstream
appears to have nullified the issue with the "ghost mounting" of
something that wasn't there which causes a false error popup during
install, so yey!
Also, major kudos to Christoph for leading the packaging charge for this
release of Xfce! Your efforts are much appreciated.
Now on to the "errrm.... " mentions.
It looks like we're still using Slim which seems to prompt for a
password at login of the live user, I don't know that it actually checks
for a password or just accepts anything because I just guessed "live"
and it let me log on. I'm not against sticking with Slim for the release
but I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to make it autologin?
Next is the default GTK theme, its not using Adwaita which makes
anything the user were to install that's written in GTK3 look ....
"blocky" Can we get some +1's to changing that default config?
Also, I notice the gnome sound applet in the system tray but it doesn't
appear to do anything and I can't figure out where its coming from
because it doesn't seem to be listed in the xfce settings auto start
under session. So that's strange and looks bad because there's two
sound controllers in the panel this non functional gnome one and the
xfce mixer panel plugin.
I also see we still have Evince installed and I seem to remember there
being talk of replacing it with xpdf or some other viewer that I can't
seem to remember the name of. I don't mind either way, was just curious
what the status of that was.
Other than that I think everything looks amazing and I have yet to find
any issues with the default install from the Live media, everything
seems to be running like a champ!

Testing Fedora15 beta ...

Hi !
I'm just yet another anonymous Fedora user. If possible, I'd like
to help testing this F15 release.
But before I expose my problems I would like to know if there is
a webpage listing commonly reported bugs for XFCE and their
status or a magic bugzilla button for this ? (AFAIK, there is
only https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2011-02-17_Xfce )
As for my experience in testing both the alpha.TC1 and the beta,
I've mostly noticed:
[known bugs]
* some applications are ugly (I presume they are Gtk+3 programs:
nm-applet, evince, …)
* lack of a correct DM (LXDM is really awful with dual-screen and
I would gladly help you patch or test a replacement).
* keyring is not automagicaly unlocked.
[not so known bugs ?]
* some icons are missing in some menus. e.g. when right-clicking
on the desktop, icons for the sub-categories "Preferences",
"Development" and "Games" are missing. (and strangely, when
using the 'start here' button, default icons are provided for
these entries -_-)
* same problem with panel->Add new items. 4 icons are missing :(
* the systray is sometimes blinking. Does anyone notice the same
problem or is it due to an issue with my systray applications ?
* streaming music or video over sftp is still not working with
parole.
Otherwise, everything seems good. My ATI card is working
(including Xv and OpenGl!), Thunar-gio does the job, FF4 & webM
runs smoothly, xmonad is still stable and GHC 7.x wonderful.

DM for Fedora 15 Xfce

Hi all,
The Docs Project are about to send the Fedora 15 Beta Release Notes off
to the translators, which is essentially their 'feature freeze' for
Fedora 15.
I've included some of the highlights of Xfce 4.8, but I was wondering if
a decision has been made about the display manager for the Xfce Spin? As
far as I understand it, GDM seems to have disqualified itself, SLiM is
unmaintained, LXDM didn't seem to score many votes, and lightdm was
mentioned but is still in the process of being packaged.
If we are going to plump for one of these options then it would be great
to get it into the release notes. Last minute inclusion is possible but
creates a lot of extra work for the Docs Project and the Translation
team.
Any thoughts?
