Can't upgrade to 4.10 because of libxfce4util and im-chooser-common
by Alexandre Singh
Hi there :)
Thanks for an available Xfce 4.10 repo in Fedora 17, that's awesome !
But when I try to upgrade, I have two issues.
NB : As I'm french, I'll try to translate errors in english, so please
forgive me if it is a bit weird.
---
1) yum update or yum upgrade :
Error : Package : pragha-1.1.0.1-1.fc17.x86_64 (@updates/$releasever)
Requires : libxfce4util.so.4()(64bit)
Remove : libxfce4util-4.8.2-2.fc17.x86_64
(@fedora/$releasever)
libxfce4util.so.4()(64bit)
Updated by : libxfce4util-4.10.0-1.fc17.x86_64
(fedora-xfce-4.10)
Not found
You can try --skip-broken to resolve the problem
2) same commands but with --skip-broken :
Error : protection against different libraries versions :
im-chooser-common-1.5.2.2-1.fc17.i686 !=
im-chooser-common-1.5.2.2-3.fc17.x86_64

Thanks for your help and your work on Fedora,
Cheers

problems with flash
by Todd And Margo Chester
Hi All,
Just some feedback to the group. No real question.
Scientific Linux 6.2, 64 bit
Xfce 4.8
# rpm -qa \*nvidia\*
kmod-nvidia-295.20-1.el6.elrepo.x86_64
nvidia-x11-drv-32bit-295.20-1.el6.elrepo.x86_64
nvidia-x11-drv-295.20-1.el6.elrepo.x86_64
I had to downgrade my flash plugin from
flash-plugin-11.2.202.236-0.2.el6.rf.x86_64
to
flash-plugin-11.1.102.63-0.1.el6.rf.x86_64
This because if you had a flash picture open
in Firefox, and you moved another/any program
across the top of the flash video, artifacts of
the flash picture from behind would distort the program
in the foreground. Almost as if it was
doing a logical XOR. Including if Firefox
was minimized. The distortions would occur
where Firefox was before it got minimized.
If you too are having this problem, here is where I downloaded
the prior version:
http://pkgs.repoforge.org/flash-plugin/flash-plugin-11.1.102.63-0.1.el6.r...
Hope this helps someone else,

Pragha updates for Xfce 4.10
by Heiko Adams
Hi,
a few days ago an update for pragha (built against Xfce 4.8) has been
pushed to the stable repo. Since them updating my system by using yum (I
don't like PackageKit and other GUIs) has become funny.
So what's the best way to prevent this problem in the future?

Warning from gnome-keyring
by Suvayu Ali
Everytime I run mutt, I keep getting the following warning:
WARNING: gnome-keyring:: couldn't connect to:
/run/user/<usernam>/keyring-4WVxRv/pkcs11: No such file or directory
I looked online[1], this seems to be a problem with all non-Gnome
environments. Although I understood the problem, I couldn't follow the
proper way to resolve it. The Debian bug thread mentions towards the end
that this has been fixed in the latest xfce4-session. I'm using Kevin's
XFCE 4.10 builds from fedora-xfce-4.10:
# rpm -q xfce4-session
xfce4-session-4.10.0-1.fc17.x86_64
Does anyone know the proper (a solution that won't break later) way to
solve this?
Thanks,

gvfs-smb
by Jayson Rowe
Hi all,
Just wondering if it is a bug, or by design that SMB support isn't
installed by default? I didn't notice initially as my machines were
GNOME when I first installed, and then I installed Xfce and pruned out
GNOME apps afterwards...
One of my co-workers is planning to move from Mint to Fedora with
Xfce, and discovered this while testing in a VM. I did a 'yum list
installed | grep smb' on my machine, and see I have gvfs-smb
installed.
I tested installing it in a VM, and sure enough it gave me SMB support
that I didn't have.
Thanks,

GDM users, does xguest work for you?
by Sergio Cipolla
Recently xguest had the GDM requirement dropped (
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=5478 ).
It's on updates-testing for sure (might be on updates already).
I installed it here (running lightdm) but it fails to login (I have Xfce
and i3 and it fails similarly with both).
I was (am) about to ask in lightdm's mailing list but I suspect that
xguest might not be working with sessions other than GNOME.
It didn't work a while back when I had an installation with GDM and
there's a bug report for it not working with Xfce in F16 (earlier version).
So could any Xfce user that's using F17/GDM confirm if xguest works for you?
Note that it requires selinux in enforcing mode.
Thanks.
* on a side note, lightdm.conf hints on a future built-in guest account
support, but I intend to ask about it on their mailing list.

Re: weather plugin broken again?
by Raphael Groner
Hi Heiko,
I am not sure what you mean exactly with version 0.7.6, there's no such
release.
There's 0.7.4-6 in the development branch, maybe that version is the
case here.
Harald as the new developer [0] is working on an upstream patch [1] and
he is doing a very good job with that. But AFAIK, he would like to wait
with an official release including the patch to use the other forecast
service.
I can suggest you to use the sources from git [2] when you want to have
a working plugin. It works very well here on my (not-Fedora) system.
Please look at the upstream bug for more information.
Apropos: Fedora as downstream is *really* aware of that issue [3]. Just
using another licence key wouldn't solve the problem for the long term
[4].
I hope this is enough, but not too much, information to answer the
question and I can stop my mail here. The intention is to confuse not
more users, we seem to be all aware of the weather issue. :)
Best regards,
Raphael

lightdm testing
by Kevin Fenzi
lightdm is built for f17 now too... could some folks give it some
testing and see how well it's working?
I tried it here, but it just gave me a blank screen, it seemed like it
wasn't starting X right or something. Could well be a local config
issue however.
If it looks good to others in testing, we should switch the spin to it.
