Request for review: new desktop groups - XFCE
by Bill Nottingham
As part of https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/ReworkPackageGroups, I've
been working on redoing some of the groups that make up installation choices
in anaconda. The idea is to offer a simpler interface, where the user simply
selects which environment they want to run in, plus options for that
environment.
Based on what's in the kickstart file for the XFCE spin, here's what I
have for the XFCE:
XFCE contains:
desktop-backgrounds-compat
Thunar
xfce-utils
xfce4-panel
xfce4-session
xfce4-settings
xfconf
xfdesktop
xfwm4
ConsoleKit
fedora-icon-theme
lightgdm-gtk
gtk-xfce-engine
gvfs
leafpad
NetworkManager-gnome
openssh-askpass

I welcome any and all sanity-checking of this, and ideas for
additions/removals. You can open the current F18/F19 comps files and see the
data that makes this up - the 'xfce-desktop' environment defines what
groups go into XFCE, and which are shown as options, and the groups
referenced there define what packages make them up.
Ideally, once this is firmed up, we can even switch the kickstart in
spins-kickstart to refer to these groups, and retire the old ones. This
way selecting XFCE in anaconda for DVD/network installations would provide
the same experience as the Live image where possible.
Thanks,
Bill

Update xfce4-weather-plugin?
by Heiko Adams
Hi,
updates-testing has a newer version of xfce4-weather-plugin build
against Xfce 4.8. When will there be an update for the Xfce 4.10 side repo?

Systemd provides ConsoleKit, both sources were merged recently. The
login manager aka LightDM launches ConsoleKit. CK is needed for upower,
udisks and other authorized access to system tools.
Sorry, I have no links at hand to prove my statement. But you could
easily find some.

Hello,
may I ask what's the biggest problem in Fedora with LightDM?
There are other distributions where LightDM works just fine. Systemd.

Lightdm tip.
by Sergio Cipolla
Just a heads up that now with the latest update auto-login is working
properly and also we can choose the default session if we have more than
one desktop environment/window manager installed.
Just edit the 'user-session' entry in /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf
For Xfce:
user-session=xfce
(also needed for auto-login to work, or instead one can link
/usr/share/xsessions/xfce.desktop to /usr/share/xsessions/default.desktop)
