XFCE 4.12 on EPEL7
by Martin Sourada
Hi all,
are there any plans on getting Xfce 4.12 on epel7 (e.g. copr repo)? I've
been able to mockchain build pretty much everything sans:
pragha-1.2.2-5.fc20.src.rpm (missing deps, more than one, haven't tried
yet rebuilding them all)
ristretto-0.8.0-1.fc23.src.rpm (missing deps for libappstream-glib
which is unbuildable on epel7: too old glib, but fails late in build
process)
libxfcegui4-4.10.0-7.el7.src.rpm
xfce4-timer-plugin-0.6.1-17.el7.centos.src.rpm
xfce4-radio-plugin-0.5.1-10.el7.centos.src.rpm
xfce4-quicklauncher-plugin-1.9.4-19.el7.centos.src.rpm
xfce4-cpufreq-plugin-1.0.0-11.el7.centos.src.rpm
Haven't tried the functionality though yet.

Xfce 4.12 fedora 22 alpha rc3 status
by Kevin Fenzi
Greetings.
Ran into a few snags today, but managed to overcome them. ;)
We were missing 3 packages from our f22 mega update. One I already had
built (xfce4-notifyd), and two we hadn't (xfce4-screenshooter and
xfce4-dict). I managed to get those all built/added to the
update/sorted out. So, the f22 update should hopefully be happy now.
Also, looks like we managed to get enough votes for a Freeze Exception
for F22 Alpha, and also as luck would have it there was a blocker bug
that required another compose, so we are in. :)
If folks could please test the F22 alpha rc3 images, that would be
great:
Fedora-Live-Xfce-i686
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=9145949
Fedora-Live-Xfce-x86_64
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=9145951
There will be a formal rc3 announcement when the full compose is done,
but the above Xfce images are completed, so we can start testing
whenever. ;)
Thanks much.

xflock4 screensaver support
by Martin Sourada
Hi all,
I believe many people may call this nitpicking, but it has been a
long-standing issue that xfce isn't able to work with any other
screensaver than the most simple ones or xscreensaver without changing
xflock4 shell script. I don't mind that xscreensaver is simple and ugly
-- it's just an ui for locking the screen for me, but it has severe
usability problems. I noticed two:
* I cannot tell which keyboard layout I'm using. Is it US, is it CZ?
Is it qwerty, qwertz, dvorak, whatever?
* I cannot switch users that way (imagine a second person coming to
a locked computer).
I solved these issues easily by switching to mate-screensaver, but as
it's not officially supported by xflock4, I have to edit the script
every time I update xfce4-session package which is suboptimal,
especially given, the patch is fairly simple.
Can we consider adding support for all fedora/epel included
screensavers into xflock4 with such simple patch, until xflock4 is
rewritten upstream?

Xfce f22 beta status
by Kevin Fenzi
Hey folks.
Beta freeze is coming up on tuesday.
The biggest items I see currently are:
* Make sure all our pending in testing Xfce packages get karma and
pushed stable before tuesday (ie, today or tomorrow).
* It would be great if we could finish off libxfcegui4 and those last 3
plugins, but I am not sure we will be able to.
On notes: There's a upstream notes-plugin rc now, which they say they
will release next week, but that will likely be after freeze.
Is there any news on timer-plugin and cellmodem-plugin? I guess I can
look at those later today perhaps.
* Size: we just crossed over the 1GB size, so I bumped our target to
2GB. Is there anything we should cut or add? I guess many people were
in favor of switching in firefox over midori? Please indicate if so,
and we can make that change.
* Anything else we need to do that folks can think of?

RFE xfce-sig-packagers group
by Adam Miller
Hello all,
I was curious what everyone's thoughts would be on creating a
xfce-sig-packagers group (or some similar name) where everyone that's
a member is able to commit to all xfce packages DistGit (at least in
rawhide, but possibly in stable releases also if others think that's a
good idea). My main motivation for this is to try and increase
collaboration and share workload between members of the XFCE SIG who
handle packaging and maintenance of different components. Also, I hope
that this will motivate others to branch out and get involved in other
areas of XFCE if they are interested.
I'm not entirely sure what all we'll need to do to accomplish this if
everyone is on board but I do know that there are similar SIG
packaging groups like this for language stacks, desktop(gnome), and
kde so I suspect we can request a similar setup from the appropriate
group.
Questions, comments, and snide remarks are welcome. :)

Yet more xfce 4.12 status stuff...
by Kevin Fenzi
So, I did a bit of cleanup and digging today:
These 4 plugins I have retired in both rawhide and f22:
xfce4-radio-plugin -> dead, retired
xfce4-quicklauncher-plugin -> dead, retired
xfce4-modemlights-plugin -> dead, retired
xfce4-xfswitch-plugin -> dead, retired
xfce4-wmdock-plugin -> dead, retired
These 3 plugins need work to get them building/working with ui:·
xfce4-notes-plugin -> patch on list for ui, fixed already in upstream
git.· Probibly should just do a git snapshot version as they also
added gtk3 support.
xfce4-cellmodem-plugin -> patch in debian, needs work to apply.
xfce4-timer-plugin -> we had an old version, new version uses
ui, but doesn't build. (compiler issue?)
If anyone would like to poke at those three and get something working,
that would be great, otherwise I will try in the coming days.
These 2 plugins I fixed:·
xfce4-smartbookmark-plugin -> we had an old version, new version uses
ui, fixed.·
xfbib -> we had an old version, new version uses ui, fixed
I don't want to obsolete libxfcegui4 until we sort out the 3 that still
need work.· It should probibly be Obsoleted by libxfce4ui once those 3
plugins are taken care of.
I've also pushed the following in f23 and as a f22 update:
xfce4-smartbookmark-plugin-0.4.5-2.fc22
xfce4-dev-tools-4.12.0-1.fc22
thunar-vfs-1.2.0-15.fc22
xmonad-log-applet-2.1.0-8.fc22
xfmpc-0.2.2-9.fc22
xfbib-0.1.0-1.fc22
xfce4-panel-4.12.0-3.fc22
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/edit/xfce4-smartbookmark-plugin-0...
(The Xfce4-panel contains Obsoletes for the retired plugins above).
Karma/testing welcome.

[ F21 GNOME ] How to properly install Xfce
by Martin Cigorraga
Hi all,
A while back I installed the main Fedora flavour to peek out how GNOME was
doing but I want now to go back to Xfce. Alas! From what I've been
researching removing GNOME Desktop is close to impossible without risking a
massive wreak-havoc.
OTOH I'm not going reinstall the whole stuff as I already have the system
up and running the way I like it :P
Until I figure out what to do with the GNOME Desktop leftovers, what would
you say would be the best way to install Xfce Desktop, just issue an 'yum
groupinstall "Xfce Desktop"'? I won't be knocking wood, crossing my fingers
and rubbing a rabbit leg through the process :S
Btw, thanks a lot for your work on the upcoming lil rat release!
Regards,
-Martin
