xfce4-power-manager should handle the brightness buttons.

Does your machine have buttons for up/down brightness? Or are you
looking for a purely software control for them?
I do have buttons, but I don't see any effect.
There's also xbacklight command line...
I didn't have that; but yum installed it. It didn't put it into
the power manager, though. Maybe it's in need of a logout?
