Hey folks.
Should we look at retiring xfce4-mixer in f29?
It doesn't play nice with pulseaudio we have xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin that works much better it never got a 4.12 release. it still uses gstreamer-0.1x it has a bunch of bugs outstanding upstream
Does anyone see a need for it to stay around?

Not really, I wasn't even aware of the nitty-gritty. xfce4-mixer isn't even installed on my desktop, and I always use pavucontrol to deal with sound mixing. It also looks like I'm note using the pulseaudio plugin but pnmixer instead. The latter is a bit buggy, save for the fact that its "Mixer" button opens up pavucontrol so all in all works for me :)
Cheers

using this one, didn't know another one existed

I don't remember how my system was put together back in Fedora 18, but among the function keys of my keyboard the audio ones never worked. That is, until I gave a try to xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin, so for this reason alone I'm now ditching PNMixer :)
PNMixer was probably here by default or ended up in my panel by accident, and it's a lot more beautiful (subjective opinion of course) but my desktop experience just improved by switching plugins. Thanks for even asking about that other one I never heard of and isn't even on my system.
Cheers

Every time I upgrade I immediately UNinstall PA and use ALSA only - so I still depend on xfce4-mixer . .
Thanks,
Phil.

Have you tried pulse lately? I resisted it for years because of flakiness. Then at some point something stopped supporting pure alsa. And I gave in to try pulse again. And all is fine since that day (actually controlling streams separately is an added feature).
So if you don't have some hard requirement, I think you can try out pulse.
Thanks,
Phil.

Hmm . . OK, I'll see how I go at the next fresh install - I usually do a dnf upgrade most times and only install from scratch on a new hard disk which seems to average every third or fourth version . .
Thanks,
Phil.
I think we should primarily because I do not know when it will stop working .... :(
If you recall, last time I obsoleted it, there were some users and we still seem to have some users judging from emails below. So .. I guess wait and watch.

Well, so far there's 1 person in this thread, and they agreed to try switching away from it. :)
So, I think there's a better chance we could retire it now...

Well, to be clear, what I said / meant was that the next time I re-install from scratch with a new HD is when I would try something else - that could be 12 months away . .

I have absolutely no problems! I have been wanting to do this for a while. :)

I reformatted my laptop this week and this thread was really timely :) I switched to xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin and it works great.
