List, good morning,
Thanks to Kevin for preparing a CD-sized spin of the beta, now testing F14 RC3 XFCE on a Samsung Netbook NB30. This machine has Bluetooth built in; it's always on, and has no physical button for on or off.
The netbook has dual OSs installed, F14-RC3, and XPhome; I think XP reports the Bluetooth system as 'Widcomm'.
The F14 installation shows a Bluetooth icon, but always with a red cross against it. The pop-up reports that Bluetooth is on, but it can neither find any devices, nor can any devices find it. The 'properties' item lets you 'turn on Bluetooth' (but it's already on?) but nothing seems to change.
F13 XFCE spin (live CD) finds the bluetooth. The Bluetooth icon is shown, without a red cross against it. The popup menu in F13 is much longer, with options such as 'make visible', 'send files ..', 'add new device', etc. Devices can see the NB30, and it can find and connect to devices such as a mobile phone, adding its name to the devices list in the popup menu. I wondered if the Bluetooth manager in F14 is the same version as in F13.
Has anyone else experienced success or difficulty with Bluetooth on F14?
I'd be very happy to post details of logging files etc, but I need a little guidance which files to look at. Perhaps I could reset and restart the Bluetooth subsystem somehow.
regards, Ron

Just to add, I found some references to Bluetooth in dmesg:

Not sure I understand. You have a f14 install that doesn't see bluetooth, but the live media does?
Or it does until you install to HD and then it does not?

Kevin, thanks for reply; sorry the posts were not too clear.
Netbook: Samsung NB30, built-in Bluetooth.
Test 1: F14-XFCE RC3 HD install, Bluetooth icon shows but with red cross against it, machine cannot 'find' or 'use' any bluetooth devices.
Test 2: For comparison, using F13-XFCE (not F14) on live media (so as not to overwrite the F14 HD install, which I had wanted to use going forward), Bluetooth icon does not have red cross, popup menu on icon has several more commands than the popup had on F14, and machine sees Bluetooth device (mobile phone).
Seemingly, F13 finds bluetooth and can use it, F14 does not.
Here an extract of lsusb -v from the F14 installation (long, probably includes each sub-capability)

Once again, apologies if the original posts - which were followed with some dmesg output in subsequent posts - were confusing.

Seemingly, F13 finds bluetooth and can use it, F14 does not.
Right click the icon, hit 'disable bluetooth', then right click it again and hit 'enable bluetooth'. Or do 'service bluetooth stop' then 'service bluetooth start' as root at a console. It's a known bug in the bluez package in the Beta, it's been fixed since then (so 'yum update' should also get you a bluez that works). https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=634205

Nope, no luck.
Or do 'service bluetooth stop' then 'service bluetooth start' as root at a console.
skipped that since the click-restart hadn't worked

Oh, excellent. Did that, had time for a couple of cups of coffee, too :)
Bluetooth finds device, etc. That problem is solved.
I now realise that there is a residual issue, though: The machine cannot 'browse' the files on the bluetooth device (mobile phone). Nothing seems to happen, a bluetooth activity symbol comes on on the phone, but the file manager doesn't load, and nothing else happens. Surprised, I dropped back to F13 as well, to see whether that could, but F13 also fails to browse the files. So this browse failure is not F14-specific.
The hardware on both netbook and phone are ok; Netbook under XPhome sees the phone and can browse files.
I'm going to do some more checks. I'm going to check using a USB plug-in BT device (which may use a different driver), and I'm going to check on a different machine, as well, to try to narrow down where the problem shows up. Anything more I find on the 'browsing problem' I'll post in a new thread with a different title since it's a different problem.
Adam, thanks again for the pointer,
regards, Ron
