So, if you turn on SSL engine and use https, you get the X11 Display 
error, and nothing else.  If you turn off SSL engine, and use http, you 
get the X11 Display error, and it continues and works.

If that's the case, then I'm not really sure what to do, except suggest 
that you try the IBM Java 1.5.
