I'm not sure what you mean.  Unfortunately the max descriptor size is a
kernel parameter - you cannot increase that value on demand afaik.  
There is always the possibility that this could happen.

The first step is to figure out how many clients there are, and how many
connections they can all open at the same time.

Thanks for the reply,
There are roughly 100 hosts accessing this box. This is a rather small
amount of hosts in comparison to some of our other locations where we
have a much larger number.
As far as how many connections these hosts can open at a time. Is that
the amount of files they can open? If so I was under the impression that
was controlled by the  8192 in limits.conf.
Am I off in my understanding of this?
Currently my settings are fs.file-max=128000 and limits.conf has 8192.
I must be mis understanding because at the Install guides suggested
settings, the 64000 fs.file-max and 8192 setting in limits.conf could be
maxed by 8 sessions exhausting their limit.

Any pointer to documentation to further my understanding is appreciated.
