I would agree!, but to quote the opening post:
"I'm just wondering if the board has discussed the future of optical
media with in the project and perhaps set any dates/releases where we
plan to no longer support them"

No mention of any particular Desktop.

But the knock on effect is in reality, leaving out those devs and users,
who live ouside the so called "First World" (and some within)
