So I wrote yet other SD card and booted. This one had a proper local
scope MAC address of 2a:3d:13:da:6b:8d

But no IPaddress despite seeing:

[ 110.068220] eth0: device MAC address 2a:3d:13:da:6b:8d
[ 110.375071] No MAC Management Counters available
[ 110.837519] No MAC Management Counters available
[ 110.879485] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready
[ 112.702512] stmmaceth 1c50000.ethernet eth0: Link is Up -
100Mbps/Full - flow control off
[ 112.728241] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): eth0: link becomes ready

So I tried running dhclient and there were all sorts of messages, but I
forgot to turn logging back on, and no address assignment. So something
is not working for addressing.

So decided to poweroff, reboot, and retry addressing. It failed big
time with the following capture:

HELLO! BOOT0 is starting!

===============================================================

I know that nand is messed up. This appears to be a fact of life with
the Cubieboard and when you do a 1st boot of a linux on SD. There is
supposedly a complex process (to me, complex) to fix nand and get duo
boot working. But I can't follow the instructions. One page on it is
half in chinese.

So I guess this finishes today's testing unless I am asked to try
something else.
