Depois da letra "L" não aparece mais nenhum codigo? um codigo em 
hexadecimal "0xalgumacoisa".

Tentativa e erro...
Entre com o CD1, no prompt de instalação digite

linux rescue <ENTER>

Agora vamos dar uma olhada em sua arquivo de configuração "/etc/lilo.conf"
Veja se tem as seguintes linhas:
linear
lba32

As vezes a opção "linear" da alguns problemas. Tente comenta-la.

Se o disco for muito grande, acrescente a opção "lba32". Tente 
comentar/acrescentar esta opção.

Ah... depois de qualquer alteração, regrave o lilo no setor de boot
# lilo -v

Se nada funcionar, mande para a lista o seguinte:
1 - Os arquivos
/etc/lilo.conf
/etc/fstab

2 - e a saida dos comandos
# fdisk -l
# mount
