So it seems Laughlin is an Anglicization of *two* different names!
Indeed one of them, ó Máeilsheáchlainn in Gaeilge, means "servant of St.
Secundums." Malachy is a common contemporary firstname form of this
name.

The other is Ó Lochlainn in Gaeilge, for which the meaning is
'descendant of the Viking', literally 'descendant of the lake/fjord
lands' [2,3].
