External Volume Buttons in GNOME

Hello,
I have tried to get my volume buttons working on my Presario R3320CA
under FC3 x86_64, but got no success. What I did was open up the
Preferences->Keyboard Shortcuts menu and bound the Volume mute/up/down
to the volume buttons on the side. This is what it got set to:
0Xa0/0xae/0xb0. When I tried it then, it didn't work. Then just to see
if it's a problem with the buttons, I bind volume down to a keyboard
key (Control+.). That had no effect eighter. Has anyone go this
working?
