Have you posted your patches?  Maybe they turn out to be simple enough?

What the Desktop SIG/spin is about is to do the small tweaks to Fedora to
make it a better desktop.  If we get blocked on some larger changes to the
underlying OS (like this bootup sequence), the answer isn't to fork.  Let's
be honest, there are a bazillion other Linux distributions out there, I
think few people here have the desire to add to the pool.  Keep in mind what
makes Fedora Fedora (among other things, but in this context...) is that we
try to get everything upstream and we try to have a unified code base.
