I can only speculate but if I say install the KDE spin and want to try out
Fedora Workstation, should I reinstall? I would prefer not to.

Perhaps it is but if that isn't going to be supported, it should be
documented as part of the upgrade story for users moving from Fedora 20 or
earlier.  Some of the questions that needs to answered include

*)  Can I continue to upgrade Fedora 20 without moving to using one of the
products?
*)  Can I move between products?
*)  Can I move from non productized installations to one of the products
and vice versa?
*)  How do I differentiate between what is part of the product and what is
not and what is the effect on upgrades?

I intend to add notes to the "Upgrading" page in the wiki.
